Beautiful music on Serenade Radio this weekend..as always. Whether it was making my morning tea to ‘Handel In the Strand’, or hearing the beautiful voice of Nana Mouskouri, and who wasn’t swishing their pony tail to Bobby Darin
whilst baking their sconea today (or was that just me 🙂 Thankyou to all at Serenade Radio for the very best Radio Station.

  2. Keith Russell on 30 April 2023

Keith listening from Kent. Cindy Kents show this afternoon was pure joy. She has such a soothing voice and presentation style. Excellent

    • Cindy Kent on 30 April 2023

Thank you kind sir! Glad you enjoyed it. It’s a great station!

  3. Mark Richardson on 29 April 2023

Serenade continues to amaze me with the quality of the programming both the content and presentation . Steve James programmes on the weekends are my radio highlights… every week . Thanks for playing Tin Tin today Steve and so much Anita Kerr . Boom Radio gets a lot of press but you have been doing the same and better for “ easy “ for a long while

    • Steve James on 30 April 2023

Thank you very much Mark, it’s my pleasure. I’ve loved this music for years, so it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to present it to a wider audience.

  4. Patrick Moeyaert on 29 April 2023

Hello from Antwerp in Belgium. Always searching for a good radio station with light instrumental music and particular songs between the 40’s en 70’s. Searching and searching and than there was you, yes Serenade Radio! Exactly what I needed. I’m hearing my Spotify playlists but know with nice comment between the music without commercials thanks for that. I’m born in 1965. You don’t have to be very old to love this repertoire. It’s a very very important legacy in music. The foundation of many styles of music today. Even my younger sons love it. Serenade Radio creates also a certain positive atmosphere. Really and truly, many thanks for being there. You’re all amazing! Many loves and keep up the good work!

    • Chris Muermann on 1 May 2023

Hello Patrick, you will be not dissapointed. That´s what so important in radio, a presenter with knowledge of their matarial. A also very new here, but I know already that Serenade Radio is something special.

  5. Charlie Citrine on 29 April 2023

Steyn’s Song of the Week is the highlight of my week. Thanks for broadcasting.

  11. Chris Muermann on 25 April 2023

    Hallo from Berlin, Germany!
I discovered Serenade Radio a few days ago and I must say that I´m absolutely enthusiastic of your station. I even heard not all your DJs yet.
I was born in 1968 and it began with Frank Sinatra around 1980. I´m a fan of him since then until today. I even saw him live in the end 80´s and early 90´s. Also in London in 1990 at the London Arena. From Sinatra it´s not far away to Jazz. And so I became a jazz fan also. Also I like light instrumental music very much. Here in Berlin we had an orchestra leader named Werner Mueller. Perhaps the name is familar to a few of you. He was the leader of an radio orchestra here in Berlin called “RIAS-Tanzorchester”. He also used a large string section sometimes and so I discovered some great sounds. In all these years, I also discovered also great british orchestras.
In the mid nineties I got my first home satellite system where I discovered the BBC Radio programs. I became a fan of Radio 2. They still had great programs at that time. I was a regular listener of Big Band Special with Sheila Tracy. Sadly Radio 2 is now a station like thousend other stations … boring. I still listen a few jazz programs and news programs on the BBC. But that´s it.
It seems to me that Serenade Radio will be my favourite radio station. I was absolutely thrilled of “The Light Programme” with David Corbett on Sunday from 7 – 9 p.m. It was a joy to hear a presenter with such a great knowledge. And I´m very sure that every program has it´s on style with great presenters. And I´m sure every presenter handpicked their music. No computer automatization!
I hear Seranade Radio via my three (!!!) Internet-Radios. One is in my living room connected on my stereo system. One is in the kitchen and the other one is in my bedroom. The one in the bedroom is a ROBERTS Internet-Radio also with DAB+ and FM. And it´s a vintage radio with the look of the 60´s!
Believe me, Serenade Radio is a really discovery for me. Also your website is very informative. Especially I like the “Our Presenters” section. I´m really looking forward to hear all your presenters. What´s the best word? Presenters or DJs? I´m not sure. I will also join you on Twitter and Facebook! And I will tell all of my friends of Serenade Radio. Best wishes to all the presenters and to Andy Marriott and of course to all other listeners like me.

    • Karen on 25 April 2023

Hello Chris , Absolutely spot on . I found Serenade Radio a few months ago and it didn’t take me long to realise it’s just the best station there is either. I have to warn you it’s a bit addictive though we’ve even started bluetoothing it to the car radio so we can listen to decent music and proper presenters when we are on the way to work . Anyway hello and best wishes to you too from this serenade listener.

      • Chris Muermann on 25 April 2023

Hello Karen, you’re absoltutely right… it’s a bit addictive. But of course in a positive way. For me, it’s not just a short “fashion style”. I already know that Serenade Radio will be my favourite radio station. And I don’t even heard all the presenters yet.

        • Karen on 25 April 2023

Well you are in for a treat as all the presenters are great. By the way…I am a bit jealous you got to see Frank Sinatra live x

          • Chris Muermann on 1 May 2023

Karen, to visit the Sinatra concerts was a decision I had never regret. Of course, it was a bit costly but it was worth every penny. I saw him in August 1988 in Miami, USA together with Liza Minnelli and Sammy Davis jr. In April 1989 in Munich, Germany also with Liza and Sammy. In July 1990 in London. In October 1991 in Frankfurt, Germany and the last time here in my hometown Berlin, Germany on June 3rd, 1993. I´ll never forget these concerts!!!

    • Neil on 25 April 2023

What a lovely message Chris. Welcome and enjoy. This is a great station

      • Chris Muermann on 25 April 2023

        It sure is!

    • Simon McLean on 27 April 2023

Hello Chris – I have many of Werner Mueller’s LPs, and he turns up sometimes on my shows Dinner At Eight and Music Box. I must get some more of those albums out for future shows!

      • Chris Muermann on 1 May 2023

Hello Simon, that´s great. Somtimes I have the feeling Werner Mueller is totally forgotten. Even here in Germany. So, I´m really looking forward to your shows when you play him in your shows. With the radio orchestra he played also great jazz tunes. But sadly these recordings never were released commercially. I heard your show on Saturday for the first time and I liked it really very much. So, 8p.m. (9p.m. german time on saturdays will be reserved for your show.!
Since I know Serenade Radio only a week, I listened to many programs yet (not all) and I´m very very impressed!!! Of course everyone has his personal favourites. My favourites are now Dick Fisher´s program; “Music Box” with you, Simon; “Big Band Special” with Johnny Beerling; “The Jazz Hour” with John Hellings; “The Light Programme” with David Corbett; “Dinner At Eight” with you, Simon; “Music Cavalcade” with John Walton.
But I heard not every show yet and I´m sure there´ll be some more programs to discover for me. Every presenter is a great personality with knowledge of the music which played in their programs. And that´s so rare nowadays. Thanks again!!!

    • Mark Richardson on 29 April 2023

      You said it Chris.
      Amazing station

  12. Karen on 22 April 2023

Oh my word… Jeff Owen is playing the Kursaal Flyers… This former Essex girl had been transported home for a few minutes. Thank you Jeff.

    • Jeff Owen on 28 April 2023

Little did I know that you knew that I knew that you knew that I was playing that song just for you! Glad you enjoyed it, and it brought back Southend memories of the old Kursaal amusement hall. Hope that you never had a launderette experience like that. Thanks for listening.

  13. Clifford Chambers on 20 April 2023

Hi, I’m Clifford from Blackpool (although not originally). For some time were were fed up of radio stations inundated with commercials, news, weather and crap! Even BBC Radio doesn’t broadcast music for everyone any longer. Then on a search, discovered Serenade Radio via smart speaker and PC and have never looked back. No more ‘same old same old’ music on a constant loop, news, weather and commercials. No wonder we felt agitated but now, we can listen to music worth listening to and songs I loved but forgot about. I keep passing on Serenade Radio to friends in the hope they too will tune in. Just when I thought radio listening had gone down the pan but with Serenade I’m so relaxed and all presenters speak as if we’ve known each other for years. Thank you!

  14. Helen on 20 April 2023

Nursery School record..on the bit of nonsense this morning, superb..I have always loved this. Mum was a Nursery School Teacher..😁😀😀

  15. Helen on 20 April 2023

Oh fantastic..the record, Bobby Darin, .singing “More” on the Andy Marriott programme..such a ..dance around the kitchen whilst making breakfast moment..( just like the Morecombe & Wise sketch)..so good..loved that 😀

  16. John Moorcroft on 18 April 2023

I enjoyed Mark Steyn’s show this week. It was weird for me because just last week I discovered the song “Sunday”,
which was recorded by the Keller sisters in 1926.
It’s now my oldest favourite recording from this age. I didn’t know Jule Styne had composed this. Thanks Mark

    • Mark Steyn on 21 April 2023

Hard to beat the Keller Sisters, John. I don’t want to lure you away from Serenade, but, if you’re ever in Montreal, it’s been the theme tune for a Sunday morning radio show there for over thirty years. Which isn’t bad for a record nearly a century old.

  17. Karen on 17 April 2023

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore… 🤣🤣 We definitely need more of that. 😂

  18. Tony Mansi on 15 April 2023

What a fantastic radio station, just love the music.
The highlight of the week is Cindy Kent on a Saturday afternoon, her programme ticks all the right boxes❤️❤️

    • Cindy Kent on 30 April 2023

Thank you Tony – glad you enjoy this wonderful station. Keep listening and spread the word! Hope you got the dedication I played yesterday for you.

  19. Karen on 15 April 2023

First time listening to Ed Wellman today ( because I try not to wake up at 6 on a Saturday to be honest) but what a great show. So Saturday sleep ins may well be over.

  20. Peter Wood on 14 April 2023

I really enjoyed Roger Williams’ selection of music on Soft Folkus tonight (14.4.23). His voice folded around some wonderful musical memories for me. I hope to hear you again very soon, Rog!

    • Roger Williams on 15 April 2023

      Peter

Thank you for your kind comments which are much appreciated. If there’s anything you’d like me to feature please feel free to make a suggestion or two!

  21. Karen on 14 April 2023

The Rose by Bette Midler…that was a bit unexpected… Such a beautiful song. Thank you.

  22. Nicholas on 10 April 2023

Mark Steyn’s Song of the Week is always a treat!

  23. Dave in London on 9 April 2023

Now I’ll be up all night trying to remember the name of the classical music theme which was repackaged within “Fantastic Fair” performed by Elmer Hockett’s Hurdy Gurdy. What a remarkable work by Mark Wirtz, and I’ve learned a new (to me) musical term – “pop sike”. A wondrous hour from Steve James again tonight, thanks Steve and Steve’s producer – taking us back to a past that we didn’t know we had!

    • Steve James on 9 April 2023

Thank you Dave- and apologies for the insomnia! Mark Wirtz produced some incredibly inventive records, some at Abbey Road. Keith West’s ‘Excerpt from a Teenage Opera’ is the best known and the follow-up ‘Sam’ is even more ambitious. You may like to track down the CD ‘A Teenage Opera’ on the rpm label, which includes many wonderful unreleased tracks recorded in 1967/8.

  24. Jason Herbert on 8 April 2023

Thanks Jeff Owen for totally ruining ‘How Do You Like Your Eggs in the Morning?’. “What a terrible chat up line” says Jeff. “Preferably unfertilised”. LOL x 10

    • Jeff Owen on 28 April 2023

Good to know that you’re paying attention. These are the yolks ..folks! Thanks for listening.

  25. Karen on 8 April 2023

Great show today Jeff Owen. Thank you. I shall have a vision of Alistair Sim in my head every time I hear Andy Marriott from now on. 😅

  26. Barbara on 7 April 2023

Thanks to Serenade for having such a diverse selection of programmes to listen to. I have just enjoyed another relaxing hour with Soft Folkus. It’s a lovely peaceful hour and many thanks to Roger Williams for his choice of music and presentation.

    • Roger Williams on 8 April 2023

Hello Barbara, thank you for your lovely comments. I very much enjoy putting the show together and it’s great to know that people appreciate the music. Do let me know if there’s anything you’d especially like to hear.

      Roger W

  27. Karen on 7 April 2023

Sitting in the garden book, hot cross bun, little drinkie and John Darvall out here with me. What could be nicer. Someone walking past just asked me what was that lovely music I was listening too as well ! Happy Easter to everyone. X

  28. Helen on 7 April 2023

Absolutely loved hearing There Will Always Be An England played this morning, absolutely wonderful.. Thankyou.. Helen

    • Eddie, London, England. on 29 April 2023

Could Helen (7 April) please tell me whose version of There’ll Always Be An England was played on that morning? Or perhaps the programme’s presenter would let me know.

      • Helen on 30 April 2023

        Hi Eddie
I’m so sorry, I’m afraid I cannot recall who sang There’ll Always Be An England on that particular day, but I think it was played on Andy Marriott’s morning show. I hope that helps a little. It is a wonderful song isn’t it. Best wishes. Helen

        • Eddie on 2 May 2023

Hello Helen. Thanks for your reply – I agree it’s a wonderful song! Perhaps Andy Marriott (if it was indeed he who played it) could enlighten me which version he played?

  29. Anne Wade on 4 April 2023

Happy Birthday 🎁🎂🎉 Peter T 🎉welcome to the 😯 club👏🏻 you earned all those years. I beat you by one year😀😃 may you enjoy many more happy healthy years. Love listening to you on Sunday mornings.

  30. David Bownes on 3 April 2023

A very happy birthday to Peter Tomlinson , another wonderful show on Sunday

  31. Helen on 1 April 2023

Oh my goodness, the Song, Ring of Bright Water, sung by Val Doonican played on Ed Wellmans Dawn Chorus programme.. Absolutely beautiful.. Helen

  32. Helen on 1 April 2023

Fantastic Morning Chorus Programme, thankyou Ed.. Superb as always. Happy Weekend to all. Helen

  33. John on 31 March 2023

Just found your station this week fantastic. From a British expat in the Philippines.

  34. Karen on 29 March 2023

I love this radio station but it’s really hard to work and listen sometimes… The Batchelors -. In the chapel in the moonlight …my Nan’s favourite song. I can’t see the computer for tears now. ,,❤️

  35. Dave in London on 28 March 2023

This one’s for Dick Fisher: you’ve got us all wondering after your Tuesday 27th show. Madeleine Peyroux’s voice reminding you of another singer… Could it be Billie Holiday stirred lightly with Maria Muldaur? Three great voices there anyway. Thanks for a great music mix as ever.

    • Dick Fisher on 28 March 2023

What a fantastic suggestion Dave! You should be doing this instead of me. I’m really pleased you’re enjoying the music. Don’t forget to tell a friend!

  36. Nicholas on 26 March 2023

An American listener here so happy to have discovered your station. Frankie Valli has some very listenable easy listening recordings, especially his Solo LP in 1967, that you may wish to check out. Anyway, thanks for providing great entertainment

  37. Helen on 26 March 2023

    Ed Wellman show.. Superb
Can we have more of Ed please?
    Best wishes
    Helen

  38. Sandra on 25 March 2023

    ‘In the Everglades’
Thank you for playing this, this morning. The Everglades are less than five miles from my home, and I have long loved this piece. Have a wonderful day!

  39. Robert Swanston on 24 March 2023

I asked if you could play Johnny Hartman & you did this morning. Thanks.

  40. Helen on 23 March 2023

Love Sing Something Simple. I was an RAF child. We were often travelling home from family and friends on a Sunday when this came on. My Dad would always sing the theme tune, except at the end of Sing Somethibg Simple, he would add ..like..& my name. It always made him giggle..Happy Days.. Thankyou for bringing back the Happy memories..

  41. Robert Swanston on 23 March 2023

I love your Radio Station but could you play Johnny Hartman & also Morgana King two of my favourites.

  42. Karen on 15 March 2023

You are so right Andy you can never have too much Roger Whittaker. Dig that box set out. 😉 ( and the next tune was Andy Williams too… its like music heaven🙂)

  43. Joyce on 14 March 2023

Your spotlight today, so good to hear. Also love “Sing Something Simple” on Sunday. Listening every day in Irwin, Pennsylvania south of Pittsburgh.

  44. D.J.R on 12 March 2023

One of my favourite hours of the week on Serenade , Sunday 5 til 6 pm
Sing something Simple (brings back great memories as a child coming home
In the car from a sunday trip out , listening to it on the radio with dad , mum & sister )
Followed by the superb Mark Steyn’s “Song of the Week “
Thank you everyone at the station for fabulous programs

  45. JayCee on 8 March 2023

I remember the 1940’s InkSpots, Donald Peers, Bing Crosby throughout to the 50’s when Bill Haley, Fats Domino, Elvis, skiffle came along but then in the mid 60’s it went pearshaped. Do love the music and presentation of Andre Rieu though
Thanks for reliving those years, ah nostalgia!!

  46. Karen on 8 March 2023

My musical tastes have always been wide, spanning all the decades I have lived in ( born in the 60s) and those before. But as a child of older parents the first records they ever bought me
( after pinky and perky that is ) reflected their musical tastes.. Andy Williams, Roger Whittaker and Sammy Davis Jr… and I loved them. But I forgot I loved them till I started listening to Serenade Radio and SR has reignited my love for them .( as well as introducing me to some new names too ) Thank you for that. Oh and I seem to have started saying “nasty’ when I don’t like something and ‘ toodle pip’ when I leave……I wonder if that means I’m listening too much. 😅

  47. Evelyn Weller on 7 March 2023

I enjoy Serenade Radio very much. I have been tuning in for the last few years and like the fact, there are no commercials. In particular, David Yarnell, Andy Marriot, and Dick Fisher are my favourites. What I am missing, is the display of the songs that are being played. I noticed in listener comments, that another listener also wrote in about this. Andy Marriott responded by saying perhaps it was the Radio Box he was streaming from. However, I tried pairing your website directly with my radio, and had the same experience. Just wondering if there is a solution. If not, just keep doing what you’re doing. It’s just great!

    Cheers,
    from Ontario, Canada

  48. Mike Simpson on 6 March 2023

My wife and I really enjoye listening to Serenade radio in the afternoon, down here in South West France, especially my good friend Dave Yarnall.
    Thank you

  49. Tony James on 5 March 2023

After a busy week, what an utter joy to wake up to the brilliant musical selection of Steve James on the superb Serenade Radio. Steve, I know you love your rare 60s tunes. I’m sure you play it, but Jefferson’s Colour Of My Love, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Along with the really good Dinner At 8 with Simon and others, Thank goodness in the radio landscape of 2023 that we have the audio oasis of this station. Andy and the team, you are much appreciated. Kind Regards, Tony James.

    • Steve James on 6 March 2023

Hi Tony, thank you very much for your kind comments. I’m certainly familiar with ‘The Colour of My Love’ by Jefferson- and you are right, I must dig it out for a play. As you may know, ‘Jefferson’ was in fact Geoff Turton, former singer with The Rockin’ Berries.

  50. Phil on 3 March 2023

Roger Williams ‘Soft Folkus’ is an acoustic gem. So very well researched and presented by someone who clearly knows his stuff.

  51. Cory on 1 March 2023

Re: Where Do You Go to, My Lovely
I agree with the BBC disc jockey – it is a wretched song (though not the worst ever, that covers too much ground). Pompous, pretentious and repetitive. The sad thing is that Peter Saarstedt’s second biggest song, which received virtually no attention, is a far better song. In fact, it is a great piece of music. I refer to Frozen Orange Juice. Also a nice You Tube video with a young Peter Fonda in a Roger Corman movie. [Link deleted]

    • john bodman on 1 March 2023

Roger Williams played Frozen Orange Juice recently on his Friday evening folk show. Always good to hear. Not sure I agree with you regarding the other song as it always takes me back to my childhood but then I was hearing the song as a child not as an adult. Even so, I still like hearing the song…and I have always wanted to be on the back streets of Naples!

  52. Karen on 28 February 2023

Wow 18 yellow roses… last time I heard that I was a teenager in he late seventies and early 80s singing in a band where most of the others were older than me and one of the guys sang that song each show and we harmonised to it. ( I preferred that to the current pop scene at the time as I always had an older head on younger shoulders) . Such wonderful memories. Thank youAndy

  53. Richard on 28 February 2023

I like the photo renovation. Thank you.

  54. Hazel on 26 February 2023

    Wonderful Radio station!

Since discovering Serenade my smartspeaker doesn’t very often get asked to play any other station.
I particularly enjoy Music While you Work, Sing Something Simple and the Sunday evening Light Music programme at 7pm. I just wished Serenade would go out on DAB+ and FM as there must be a lot of older listeners out there that would love to hear Serenade Radio but haven’t got the Internet.

I wonder if any other listeners have come over to Serenade after finding other stations not to their liking due to all the frequent irritating adverts and noisy 60s and 70s Pop music, or am I the only one?

So I’m glad I had an Alexa bought me so I can listen to Serenade through that rather than through my phone which sounded pretty tinny.

R2 just doesn’t play suitable music for us of a older generation anymore, not for a long time now. Used to love it when they did programmes like Semprini Serenade, Marching and Waltzing, Friday Night is Music Night, Family Favourites and Sing Something Simple. It’s wonderful that Serenade now has Sing Something Simple but I just wished the programme was an hour long as half hour is too short. It’s so lovely and relaxing to listen to and reminds me of my late parents, they used to always have Sing Something Simple on. Such a lot of music on Serenade reminds me of my parents, and I now I’m older I enjoy and appreciate the music they loved, and is played on Serenade.

The BBC obviously have no intentions of ever starting a station of light music and easy listening like Serenade…so hooray for Serenade radio! The best station and the only one worth while listening to.

    • Richard on 28 February 2023

      Most encouraging and fair.

    • Neil on 28 February 2023

      100% Hazel – nicely put

  55. Fraser Sutherland on 24 February 2023

It’s the strangest thing. Some of the music I love. Some of the music not so much. But every single programme (and presenter) is a therapy. Serenade has been a real find.

  56. john bodman on 23 February 2023

Just to say how much I continue to enjoy the music and the company Serenade Radio brings each day. Every show is special but I want to say in particular how much I enjoy the Friday evening folk show with Roger Williams. Unfortunately I missed last week’s show as I was on holiday (shame on me!) so I am very much looking forward to listening tomorrow at home in south west London. A true gem of a show, thank you SR.

  57. Karen Corfield on 21 February 2023

These Stan Freberg tracks are hilarious… I’m trying to work but I can’t stop laughing. Going to have to see if there is a record available anywhere to hear some more. ( after work of course!) Great stuff.

    • David Yarnall on 5 April 2023

Hi Karen. I saw your comment as I was scrolling through and although I don’t play the Stan Frieberg tracks on my programme I have to admit they are funny. You’ll probably find a cd or two of his works so I would search on the internet. You might even be able to download them but now it’s getting technical!! I had a vinyl lp once but Mark Steyn borrowed it off me in the eighties when we were both presenters at Beacon Radio in the West Midlands and I’ve never seen it since!!😂😂

      • Karen on 5 April 2023

Thank you for that David. I shall have a look for some . If there is anything on Amazon I will be right in there … If not … Job for the husband !!!

I should add thank you for your great shows by the way. I started listening to serenade to listen to Mr M …but over time you’ve all weedled ( I think I made that word up) your way into my affection and I rarely listen to anything else. Even in my office today with a sneaky ear piece under my hair. Shhh dont tell anyone 😅

  58. Clifford Chambers. Blackpool. on 20 February 2023

Having started to work at home regularly I find myself listening to Serenade more and more. It was only when I was looking at the schedule that I realised you were without funding and saw the donate button. I can’t afford much (nhs!) but I felt that as you are keeping me going I should be helping to keep you going to ! So I sent a little donation. I will try to do so again when I can. Thank you for the lovely music. Karen

    • Andy Marriott, Station Manager on 18 February 2023

      Hi Karen,
What a lovely note, thanks very much.
Glad to hear you are enjoying what we do here at SR.
Many thanks for the donation too, it’s kind folks like you who keep us going!
      All the best.

What a great idea – SR coffee mugs (and tea of course). I’d take one into the office.

  62. Terry on 16 February 2023

What a great idea to have a radio station that does not have all those interminable adverts ! We gave up listening to every single radio station here in the UK and have given away a couple of portable radios already ! What a pleasure to have just found Serenade Radio and be able to listen to all these great tunes which go back to the fifties, sixties and seventies when my wife and I were growing up in south-east London. So relaxing without all those awful adverts every five minutes ! News flashes, weather reports, traffic information, etc. etc. What we want is just some beautiful music ! Keep going !

  63. Lanie White on 16 February 2023

Serenade Radio is my lifeline to sanity and peace in the crazy world we live in today. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Tonight’s Valentine’s special Big Band Show didn’t disappoint.
Johnny tugged all the heart strings in the best manner.
Might have a second helping on Tuesday night at nine ☺️

    • Johnny Beerling on 14 February 2023

Thank you Tony, always good to know we are doing something right, Do tell the neighbours!

  70. Richard on 10 February 2023

Hi again. As you rightly said: you are doing 99.99% right, and I add, plus tax. Your quality is above thousands of radios. Your speech is so clear, your comments are so sober, your music is so exceptional!!!!
Sure you remember I live in Patagonia, southern tip of South America. Thank you for such a top work!!!

    • Richard on 11 February 2023

Happy birthday !!!!!! 8 years of top quality radio!!!

  71. Michael on 10 February 2023

Hey Andy, Burt Bacharach just passed at 94 years of age. Such a catalog of great songs. Any chance of a special hour or something to remember?

    • Andy Marriott on 10 February 2023

      Hi Michael,
We will, of course, be playing lots of extra Burt Bacharach music over the weekend. There is such a huge catalogue of great tunes to enjoy.
Don’t miss today’s Music Box, Simon will be cramming loads into that relaxing hour at midday and midnight.

  72. Brian on 8 February 2023

Why do you no longer provide a playlist to, Online Radio Box

    • Andy Marriott on 8 February 2023

      Hi Brian,
Online Radio Box is a third party, we have no connection to them whatsoever.
The way we deliver our programmes and the “Just played” list has not altered in 8 years.
Please speak to Online Radio Box, the problem is clearly at their end!
      Thanks,
      Andy Marriott
      Station Manager

  73. Gary Hofmeister on 8 February 2023

My wife and I were in Kiev, Ukraine in 2000 and stopped to see a brass quintet concert. A young gal would come out before every song and explain something about it including the name of the song. We then would lean over to our interpreter to learn the title. He whispered, “I’m not guilty.” Then…they started playing…AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’. We couldn’t stop laughing and are still laughing over that. Some things don’t translate all that well.

    • Andy Marriott, Station Manager on 18 February 2023

This makes me smile every time I read it!
      Thanks for sharing it Gary.

  74. Pamela on 7 February 2023

I’m in Australia. I just discovered this station and I’m loving it. There’s nothing like it here anymore; hasn’t been for decades. Our radio stations have all gone woke, and still pushing a certain injectable experiment onto us. Listening to Etta Jones now. So lovely. Thank you!

  75. Israel Pickholtz on 6 February 2023

Blossom Dearie may have just sung “Plus Je T’embrasse,” but we know it as “Heart of My Heart.”

  76. Paul Kennedy on 6 February 2023

    Hi David,
Really enjoy your daily one o’clock program. I’m a big fan of the legendary crooners like Dean, Andy, Perry, and Nat. Like your personal comments as well … keep up the terrific work.
    Paul in Halifax, Nova Scotia

    • David Yarnall on 24 February 2023

Hi Paul. Thank you very much for your message and I’m so glad you enjoy my programme and I must admit I enjoy presenting it. Those crooners did leave a terrific musical legacy for us all to enjoy and what better way to do so than via Serenade Radio. My listener base is becoming quite international with you in Nova Scotia and a couple in Southern France!! Thanks again for taking the trouble to contact me – it is much appreciated.

  77. Gisela Kabelitz on 4 February 2023

That is the best radio station I’ve listened to in ages! Love you, keep up the good work!

  78. Alan Barker on 3 February 2023

Any chance of hearing Eddie Fisher singing Cindy oh Cindy takes me back to hearing on the light programme as a six year old boy growing up in Nottingham

    • Jeff Owen on 3 February 2023

      Hello Alan,
Since you asked so nicely, and you’re a fellow Nottinghamian – I’ll play it for you on Saturday morning. Hope you enjoy it, and thanks for listening.

  80. James Chapman on 31 January 2023

Hi from Warminster in Wiltshire. I won’t lie and say that you are the only radio station I tune into. However I’ve made a donation because I believe that the music you play is for me. All the best for the future James.

    • Andy Marriott on 1 February 2023

      Thanks James, most kind.

  81. Francesca Engelmann on 29 January 2023

I LOVE Serenade radio. Radio like it used to be. I write as a daughter of a broadcaster who worked with many of the greats even Glen Miller when he worked for AEF during the war, and subsequently the BBC Light programme. Edmundo Ros even wrote a song for me! You take me back to so many wonderful Sunday afternoons. Thank you all so much for the sheer joy of our kind of music – to quote the great David Jacobs.

    • Andy Marriott on 30 January 2023

      Hi Francesca,
Lovely to have you with us, great to see such a famous and respected surname in the field of broadcasting appear on our humble website 🙂
Thank you for your kind words, I hope you continue to enjoy Serenade Radio.
      Andy Marriott, Station Manager.

  82. Vanessa-Ann Dowsett on 24 January 2023

I love Serenade radio. It plays all the easy listening music that I love that the BBC refuses to play. Great presenters, great programmes. I have it on all night as I sleep poorly and it’s so soothing. Thank you all

  83. Gary Trinder on 23 January 2023

How fabulous to have music presented by people who understand it, and provide additional details of accompanying orchestras, musicians, composers and often the film or musical it was featured in. Intelligent radio!

  84. Beverley Whitefoord on 23 January 2023

What a lovely surprise to hear The Robert Docker Sextet on MWYW this morning. Robert Docker was my father and it is so good to know that he hasn’t been forgotten and his music lives on. I wonder if anyone knows who the other players in his sextet were? Maybe they were just random session musicians, although I think this is unlikely. Serenade Radio never ceases to provide hours of pleasurable listening – thank you so much. Kind regards, Beverley.

    • Brian Reynolds on 23 January 2023

I was actually present at the recording of that broadcast (as a studio guest, not a musician) I can recall that the guitarist was Billy Bell and the saxophone/clarinet player was Peter Ripper. Robert Docker, in addition to being one of radio’s most distinguished pianists, also wrote countless arrangements for the BBC Concert orchestra and the Reginald Leopold Orchestra, of which he was a member. In today’s programme he played his own composition “Rags to Riches”. Among his other works are ‘Legend’, ‘Fairy Dance Reel’, and the ubiquitous “Tabarinage” (Buffoonary) Robert was part of the fabric of light music and is remembered by countless people!

  85. Chris on 22 January 2023

Love the station, it’s now my Primary go to radio station at any time of night or day! Great presenters, and Cindy Kent is great fun with all her reminiscences of life in the biz!
I am encouraging donations as it’s a valuable gold rated radio! Keep cheering us up!

    • Revd Cindy Kent on 28 January 2023

Thanks Chris – so glad you like the station. And I could reminisce about my showbiz past ‘til the cows come home!! Keep spreading the word and Blessings on your day. Revd Cindy

  86. Alwine and Len Curtis on 21 January 2023

We read an article in the Telegraph this week that mentioned Serenade Radio and thought we would give it a try. This is the station for us now. Radio Two has lost its way. The idea of “moving older presenters elsewhere” is a very bad decision by someone as the “older listeners” are leaving Radio Two with them to go to other stations that play brilliant music like you do. Carry on the excellent work and we are now with you all the way. Thank you. Xx

    • Andy Marriott on 21 January 2023

What a nice message. Thank You.
Welcome! Glad you’ve found us and I hope that you enjoy what you hear.

  87. Barry S on 20 January 2023

Great station and I love the specialist shows, especially Soft Folkus. So Mr Williams, could you please play something by Harvey Andrews for my wife Christine and myself? Thanks!

    • Roger Williams on 23 January 2023

Hello Barry, thank you for the lovely message. Harvey Andrews? Good call! Might take a week or two to get this organised but more than happy to feature him for you and Christine. Roger (and out)

  88. Rita Dove on 15 January 2023

Most give compliments to Peter Tomlinson on his choice of music he has played for the last two hours really enjoyed the music chosen, well done Peter along with Serenade Radio Presenters giving their valuable free time to please your dedicated listeners once again thank you for the music👍👍👍👍

    • Peter Tomlinson on 23 January 2023

Thank you very much Rita for your kind comment. I only get to do my 2 hours on a Sunday but look forward to it very much. The music we play really keeps me going especially when the world seems close to disaster !!

  89. Geoffrey Vickery on 14 January 2023

I must say how much I enjoyed Cindy Kent this afternoon. The first time I tuned in and the choice of music was wonderful. Looking forward to next week’s show.

    • Cindy Kent on 14 January 2023

Thank you Geoffrey! Good to hear. Serenade is THE best station!

  90. Tony Martin on 14 January 2023

Without taking anything away from the rest of the great shows and presenters on Serenade Radio, we always look forward to Jeff Owen and his show at 10am on Saturday mornings. Every song a gem, takes me right back to our teenager years and beyond

    • Jeff Owen on 20 January 2023

Hello Tony. You’re too kind! I’m sure if you were on the radio I’d listen to you too. Thanks for your generous words. It’s great to hear that you enjoy what we’re all doing here at Serenade. Perhaps do us a favour, and tell some of you’re friends about us – they’ll love you even more forever. Thanks again for listening.

    • Barry S on 20 January 2023

I agree- I love the show. But I have to say it’s Jeff’s links I really enjoy. If only we didn’t have to listen to 3 songs before his witticisms!

  91. Jonathan on 12 January 2023

My wife and I were very sorry to hear about Brian Savin’s illness and partial retirement (at least for now, someone somewhere is working on a cure). We’ve thoroughly enjoyed spending our time with him. Brian, don’t stop believin’!

  92. Matthew Esposito on 12 January 2023

So many wonderful tunes, many artists and selections I didn’t know existed.. So happy to have found Serenade Radio and now stream it in glorious stereo, in every room of my home here in Southern California USA

  93. Glenda Logan-Reid on 8 January 2023

I must say a huge thank you to Stuart Linnell for including Cara Mia by David Whitfield and Love Changes Everything by Michael Ball and For All We Know by Joan Regan in your playlist yesterday.
I knew both David and Joan for a number of years having worked as his Secretary when he did a summer season in Bournemouth in 1959.
In Joan’s case after 50 years in 2003 I had the most wonderful few minutes chatting to her about her early career and first summer season in Weymouth in 1953 and beyond. We renewed our friendship again in Bournemouth in 2005 when she came into the Pavilion Theatre foyer for a memorable chat! Such precious memories.

    • Stuart Linnell on 9 January 2023

I am so pleased that you enjoyed hearing those records on my show Glenda, and that they brought back those lovely memories. Those artists all had such superb voices and they are perfect examples of what Serenade Radio is here to do, bringing great singers and great songs, as I call them, for us all to enjoy. Thank you for listening Glenda.

  94. Ian Simmonds on 7 January 2023

May I congratulate Roger Williams on his ‘Soft Folkus’ programme. An absolutely superb selection of quality music that I thoroughly enjoyed and I will be certain to listen to every Friday evening. Especial thanks for playing ‘Be The Man’ – it fitted in perfectly.

    • Roger Williams on 10 January 2023

      Hello Ian

Thank you for your lovely comments about Soft Folkus and especially about “Be The Man” which is a wonderful song. If you get the chance to hear The Young ‘Uns live they never disappoint. Thank you for being there! Roger W

  95. Barry Birch on 6 January 2023

Kudos to Brain Savin, and heartfelt wishes for some success in fighting a nasty disease. And thanks to Brian for bringing us “Steyn’s Song of the Week”. It is one of my favorite shows on SR.

  96. Alastair Dunn on 4 January 2023

I have only recently found Serenade Radio and Brian Savin was my ‘go to’ show at 10pm so I just want to say a big thanks to Brian for his fantastic programmes and send him my best wishes. I will still be tuning in to Serenade same time same place as Dick Fisher’s shows in the late night slot have been excellent – he’s the perfect replacement.

  97. Kelly from San Francisco on 3 January 2023

Thank you, Serenade Radio, for a lovely (and commercial free) Christmas weekend of great music. Being here in the US it’s so hard to find! We had the station on every day thru Boxing Day.

Farewell, Brian – So sad to hear the news of your departure from the on-air side of things due to ill health but I’m positive Dick Fisher will slide in nicely! Happy New Year!

  98. Sandra on 3 January 2023

Thank you Thank you Thank you so much for playing the St. Louis Blues March!! One of my favorites of all time; What a wonderful surprise! Greetings from Fort Lauderdale, FL 🌴☀️ Happy New Year 🥳

  99. Glenda Logan-Reid on 3 January 2023

I would like to welcome Dick Fisher as a regular listener and avid supporter of Serenade Radio.
I enjoyed your first programme very much indeed, a lovely mix of vocals and orchestrals. Loved your style of presenting too. I’m sure you’re going to be a very welcome addition to Serenade. It was so nice to hear some of our British singers as well as their American contemporaries.

    • Dick Fisher on 3 January 2023

Thank you Glenda for your warm welcome. I am beginning to feel at home as part of a wonderful team of broadcasters. I wish I could claim all the credit for the music selection and agree that we should never forget the wealth of UK talent we’ve produced!

  100. Len Arthur on 2 January 2023

A great station, I was told about you from a dear friend and have been listening for about 4 months. One of the best is “sing something simple ” just takes me back to Sunday afternoons and my visits to my grandparents. I had to be there before it started, if not had to wait until it finished, was not aloud to interrupt. Open fire going and paraffin lamp alight in the middle of the table, black ring on the ceiling. They had no mains electric and the toast was done on a long fork by the fire, Happy days and a more relaxed atmosphere, or so it seemed. Keep up the good work. A very happy new year

  101. Glenda Logan-Reid on 2 January 2023

I was so very sad to hear that Brian Savin is retiring from Serenade Radio due to ill health. Most Serenade listeners including myself had no idea at all of the difficulties and clever wizardry was happening to keep him on air. Motor Neurone is a very challenging and cruel disease as I have seen from two friends who suffered.
In the words of the famous ABBA song “Thank You For The Music” seems the most appropriate thing to say for the man who liked to present quality music with a capital ‘K’. We’ll miss you Brian, thinking of Brian and his family at this time.
