A very hot night here in Deal – sleeping not easy – so I have been listening to Serenade Radio and on the Dawn Chorus I have just heard ‘Tabarinage’, played by the Light Music Society Orchestra. I can tell you that this was composed by my Dad, Robert Docker, in 1961 and ‘Tabarinage’ means Buffoonery!! My Dad once received a letter from an amateur film maker who wanted to use the music in a scene from the film where a live monkey jumped out of an aeroplane!! Not sure that’s what my Dad had in mind when he composed it!
Thank you Serenade, for keeping the music alive.

    • Andy Marriott on 9 July 2023

      Nice story!
Thanks Beverley, it’s a pleasure to play your father’s wonderful music on SR. Did you catch his sextet on Music While You Work last Thursday?

      • Beverley on 9 July 2023

        Hi Andy,
Yes, I did hear the Robert Docker Sextet last Thursday – such a treat! He would be thrilled to know that his music is still being played. Look forward to some more soon!

  2. Michael on 8 July 2023

    Hi Kevin Taylor,
After playing Englebert’s Quando, Quando, Quando you said, there’s two songs with a latin flair, which is incorrect. Quando is Italian for “when”, whereas, if it were spelled “Cuando” on the label that would indicate Spanish.

    • Andy Marriott on 9 July 2023

      Hi Michael,

This got me thinking so I went online and found this: The cultures whose core language is based on Latin, are Latin cultures, such as Spanish, French, and Italian. We can refer to individuals from these countries as Latin. Hispanic, however, refers to people and cultures that are derived from former parts of the Spanish Empire.

So, it looks like Kevin knows his stuff!

      • james wilson on 16 July 2023

Yes Andy you are dead right…..the first time I heard the word Quando was in a Latin class, too many years ago o remember. But I always remember when I first heard the song I thought, “Oh yes, quando is Latin for when”

  3. Anthony on 8 July 2023

Stuart Linell in fine form today. Firstly over his hay fever of a few weeks ago.
Good music as in favourites and others never heard or rarely played.

Saves me playing my 7,000 CD music library of songs but also playing what I wish I had but cannot find or are being sold at ridiculous prices.

Mobility is impaired. Our public transport is being reduced. So options of going out or attending local events is becoming increasingly difficult for many.

So a relaxing day and evening of music radio helps the time pass by pleasantly. Its company.

May Serenade continue for many years to come and we are around to enjoy it too.

    • Stuart Linnell on 8 July 2023

Thank you so much Anthony. So kind of you to send such lovely comments. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the music selection. It is always lovely to hear from listeners, and it was also kind of you to comment on my hay fever. Best wishes.

  4. David Purll on 7 July 2023

    Roger,
Thank you again for another great programme, lots of rarely heard stuff, and thank you especially for Pete Atkin once more and also Stefan Grossman (!) The closing Paul Simon track was lovely too.

  5. Helen on 7 July 2023

Excellent choice of tunes this morning, as always, on SR. Lovely stuff, especially on such a beautiful sunny morning. Thankyou

  6. Maggie on 6 July 2023

Dear Dick Fisher, slight error, Roger Moore was married to Dorothy Squires, not Rosemary. Brilliant prog and superb Serenade radio, My favourite.

    • Richard Fisher on 6 July 2023

      Dear Maggie
To coin a favourite song title – “what kind of fool am I?” How did I get the two Squires’ mixed up like that? There’s a soon to be vacant slot coming up on SR, for someone who actually knows stuff. Interested?

  7. Karen on 6 July 2023

Marty Feldman on the twaddle .. ive never heard that before. My kind of love song 😂 Great stuff.

  8. Anne Wade NC on 6 July 2023

I love all the great guy’s and gals on SR who bring me hours of enjoyment ❤️❤️ with music that puts a smile 😊 on my face 😀 David Yarnal has to be my favorite 👏🏻love his quirky side and his smooth voice❤️

  9. Karen on 5 July 2023

Just returned from a meeting plugged the radio into my ear and heard that it is the lovely Dick Fisher’s birthday today. Happy Birthday Dick . Thank you for your fabulous shows. Have a great day x

    • Richard Fisher on 5 July 2023

Thank you Karen. At my grand age, birthdays don’t really mean much . However, your good wishes are appreciated and I thank you. My wife Cynthia and I enjoyed a leisurely lunch at one of our favourite places.

  10. Karen on 4 July 2023

I was just thinking rather sadly that there had been no edmundo ros on Dick’s program today and maybe he was going off him a bit .. and then…. as if by magic… The final tune puting a little smile on my face. Thank you Dick .

  11. Robert Swanston on 4 July 2023

Elaine: Serenade do sometimes now play Morgana King. I hadn’t heard of her until I saw her playing Marlon Brando’s wife in the first Godfather film. Glad you like her.

  12. Elaine on 3 July 2023

I’m listening from the US and want you to know that your station has helped to keep me sane in these days of insanity and has kept me company and revived wonderful memories of the past while recovering from an illness. Thank you all so much.

  13. Vanessa-Ann Dowsett on 3 July 2023

Hi all, I love listening to Andy Marriott ‘s Television Show, it certainly is a great way to begin my Sunday morning and brings back many childhood memories. We didn’t have a TV in my home until I was 8 and we were very restricted as to viewing time as my parents believed it to be bad for both brain and eyes. Now, in my mid sixties, I have come full circle as the radio and books are my preferred entertainment with DR radio top of the list. Thank you all

  14. Karen on 2 July 2023

What other radio station is there where you would hear Jupiter from the planet suite and in the same program Lets have a party by Mrs Mills ( last time i heard that was at my nan’s at parties in the 70s so it made me a bit emotional to be honest!) . The variety on SR is incredible… Something for everyone. I know i bang on about this all the time but we are so lucky to have this.

  15. Karen on 2 July 2023

Moonlight becomes you … Peter Tomlinson… I think it was silvikrin hair spray. Not sure how i remember that as i wasnt of hairspray using age at the time .. But it makes me think of it everytime i hear it . 🙂

  16. Kevin Darling on 2 July 2023

I have only just discovered your station – today, (Sunday 2-7-’23), and I think I will make it regular listening.
My favourite era of music is the 1920’s – 1940’s Dance Bands and vocalists.
I’m pleased to see you do cater for this era on Saturdays which is repeated on Mondays. I, of course, missed the Saturday edition, but look forward to hearing the repeat on Monday.
Sadly, people like me are neglected by the mainstream broadcasters. I assume they think that because you weren’t around in those days, you won’t want to hear the music from those days…. Well I can’t get enough of the music from that time !

  17. Helen on 2 July 2023

Ed Wellman’s Dawn Chorus, as always, absolutely beautiful.

  18. Karen on 1 July 2023

Sitting in my little back yard at 10.42pm , drinking whiskey and listening to Kevin Taylor. The perfect Saturday evening relax . Thank you SR what would we do without you.

  19. David Purll on 30 June 2023

Thanks Roger for including Pete Atkin, the combination of his music and Clive James lyrics is stunning. On the endles subject of “one thing leads to another” I only recently discovered that Paul Simon and Al Stewart shared a flat together in London at the time Paul wrote Blessed ( allegedly at St Anne’s church in SoHo, and that Paul co-wrote with Bruce Woodley of the Seekers…”Red Rubber Ball” a hitcin the USA for the Cyrkle….so theres another couple of suggestions …. your programme is responsible for so much…. thank you

  20. Steve on 30 June 2023

    Morning Andy!

Thanks for brightening up a dull, cold rainy day in Worcestershire! 😊

On ‘Bobby Sherwood And His Orchestra – Moonlight Becomes You’, the vocalist was Kitty Kallen, I believe.

Another terrific selection of music, and the comedy slot 🤣🤣 Eric Morecambe was on Parkinson one time, and Parky asked: ‘Have you ever thought about what you and Ernie would have been if you weren’t funny?”

Quick as a flash, Eric said: “Mike and Bernie Winters.”

Uproarious laughter from the audience .

  21. spinetingler on 30 June 2023

Greetings from Charleston, SC! It’s midnight after a long day and I’m relaxing with a whiskey, neat, and Serenade Radio.

  22. Karen on 29 June 2023

Thank you for playing Loneliness by Des O Connor Dick Fisher. This song is a new love of mine . I am dancing around the room as i type 😉 I wasnt aware of it in the days before SR came into my life because i always thought des o Connor was more my mum’s territory than mine. I must be turning into her in my old age 🙂 Another great show today. Keep the Edmundo Ros coming 😉. Thank you.

    • Dick Fisher on 29 June 2023

I suspect we all remember Des’s hit songs, but it is a real delight to discover and enjoy his other great recordings. As far as Edmundo is concerned, I am seriously thinking of hiding his records from Andy, so that I have sole use!

      • Karen on 29 June 2023

As much as he makes Andy cringe he does make me laugh.. because i get it that he’s not the greatest singer. But he’s so enthusiastic and it’s like ‘ its my orchestra and I’m going to sing whatever you think ‘ and i like that. 🙂

  23. Philip Cartwright listening in The Wirral. on 28 June 2023

I agree with Brian B (24/6/23). Another thought I had…. Having brought back ‘Music While You Work’ and ‘Sing Something Simple’ why not ‘Housewives Choice’ or ‘Family Favourites’ ? These were radio request programmes which ran for many years in the 1940s,1950s and possibly the 1960s. I am sure some of your presenters would love to host such a programme.

    • Brian Bunn on 28 June 2023

Good idea Philip, I’d forgotten about those programmes, it would be great to hear them again, let’s hope Andy can arrange it !

  24. Karen on 28 June 2023

Lovely to hear Bernard Monshin again on mwyw this morning. He is always so uplifting.

    • Brian Reynolds on 28 June 2023

As you share my enthusiasm for Bernard Monshin, Karen – perhaps I can let you into a secret? You can hear him again on Friday 14th July !

  25. Karen on 27 June 2023

😂😂😂😂 omg … The twaddle it might be the best yet 😂😂😂

  26. Poppy on 25 June 2023

Love and prayers for Brian and Anita Savin and family.

  27. Karen on 25 June 2023

Another beautifully relaxing show from Ed Wellman today . The perfect way to start a sunday . Thank you Ed.

  28. Helen on 24 June 2023

Andy Marriott’s TV Programme, a wonderful tea time treat on Saturdays at 5pm.
Thankyou Andy for playing my request. Very special. Also, what a lovely heart melting childhood memory moment hearing dear ole Bagpuss 🥰

  29. Brian B on 24 June 2023

Your radio station is awesome, especially “Music while you work”, “Sing something simple” and your Saturday TV theme show.
Been thinking of 3 TV programmes, how about “Howard’s Way”, “Midnight Caller” and “Hong Kong Beat” all nice tunes. Keep up the good work, your radio station is so much appreciated, far superior to the national and commercial rubbish stations that churns out the same repetitive boring stuff !

  30. Paul Fozard on 24 June 2023

Ed’s show this morning was the perfect way to start my weekend, well done on an excellent selection to Serenade my day 🙂 I particularly enjoyed Geoff Love Singers – Tangerine excellent.

  31. Karen on 23 June 2023

The twaddle spot has made me a Stan Freberg addict. The best way to cheer up a dull day. 😂

  32. Karen T. from New Jersey on 21 June 2023

Thank you Ed Wellman for making my weekends brighter with your lovely show “The Dawn Chorus.” The manner in which you speak to your listeners is just so inspiring and uplifting – plus the choral, standard’s, classical and other mix of music you play is simply the best. I especially appreciated you playing Eva Cassidy’s version of “Field’s of Gold” – such an exquisite piece of music as you rightfully stated on your show. My husband and I look forward to you shows every weekend…again many thanks for what you do, it is very much appreciated.

  33. Karen on 20 June 2023

😂😂😂 down came the rain 😂😂😂… I’m ready for it this time I’ve put my tea down so the keyboard is safe.

  34. Helen on 17 June 2023

    Loving ALL the TV programmes,
( big fan of the Elizabeth R series)

  35. David Purll on 17 June 2023

Super programme as ever on fridsy16th . Thank you Roger for the inclusions of the S+G/ Beverly/Donovan sequence! Could i suggest Kathryn Roberts for a further program?…and possibly The Lady is a Tramp by the Fairports as an oddity? Loved the Wailing of the Willow by Judith Durham by the way – thats surely Nilsson song isn’t it? That’s the “problem” with your programme one song suggests another and off we go! I’m going to miss a couple of programmes due to holiday so ill pray for internet access where I’m going!! Once again many thanks

    • Roger Williams on 19 June 2023

Hello David, thank you for your kind comments and for overlooking a fairly obvious mistake in my presentation. Hope your travels go well . I haven’t heard Fairport’s version of The Lady Is A Tramp, but I shall seek it out! I’ll be putting this week’s show together tomorrow – not sure what will be in it just yet, a case of work in progress!

      • David Purll on 20 June 2023

It is available on the extended version of Liege and Lief amongst other places and it swings too ! Your programme has got me digging up my past! But music does thst, doesn’t it? Keep up the great work…. and i didnt spot the mistake!!

  36. Helen on 17 June 2023

Thankyou Cindy for a wonderful programme, wishing you a beautiful weekend

    • Cindy on 19 June 2023

Thank you Helen – so glad you enjoyed it. Can I play you a request next Saturday? Blessings on your week – and keep listening!

      • Helen on 23 June 2023

        Hi Cindy
Thankyou for your very kind message. You asked if I would like a request, it would be lovely to hear Jimmie Rodgers singing An English Country Garden. Thankyou so much Cindy. Best wishes

  39. Robert Swanston on 15 June 2023

I have mentioned this before but I haven’t heard you play her so far that is Morgana King. She has a lovely voice.

    • Elaine on 3 July 2023

Robert: I had never heard of Morgana King and checked her out. Yes, she has a really lovely voice. Thank you for mentioning her.

  40. Karen on 15 June 2023

Vaya con Dios means ‘ go with god ‘ Andy. Although ‘put the kettle on’ sounds better. 🙂

  41. Karen on 13 June 2023

Gosh David Yarnall … The Norman candler Bach track was lovely. I am going to have to acquire a copy.

    • David Yarnall on 16 June 2023

Hi Karen. I guess this is where the internet comes into its own!! Good luck!!

      • Karen on 16 June 2023

Hi David. Yep. Found it 🙂

        • David Yarnall on 16 June 2023

Excellent and yes the internet has its uses. Indeed, what would Serenade Radio be without it! Very quiet I guess!!

          • Karen on 16 June 2023

No Serenade Radio… Doesn’t bear thinking about. !!!

  42. Helen on 13 June 2023

This mornings Bit of Nonsense, Ronnie Barker – Plain Speaking, loved it, very very funny 😀

  43. Karen on 13 June 2023

As someone who works in a public service organisation may I just say that the Ronnie Barker twaddle was not twaddle but absolute fact… And clearer than most managers I’ve had. Brilliant
    stuff 😂

  45. Jean on 11 June 2023

Loved the hottest day of the year Andy. Thanks it made me laugh and forget about how miserable the heat can make you feel. Just had to buy a download of it and will listen to it when the temperature is getting the better of me. But when I will listen is a problem as I will miss serenade time and that will never do.

  46. Helen on 11 June 2023

Listening to Steve James’ Programme. Superb. Thankyou Steve 👌

    • Steve James on 11 June 2023

Thank you Helen, that’s really kind. Hope it provided a pleasant musical start to what has turned out to be a lovely summer day!

  47. Colin Hollingsworth on 11 June 2023

I was thrilled that Andy played my request on his Tv themes show it’s such a good programme I listen every week I will have to think of another tune for him thanks

  48. Steven on 10 June 2023

Hello Roger (and All 🙂 )

Just listening to Geraldo’s recording of Deep in The Heart of Texas on Roger’s splendid programme, with Three Boys and a Girl providing vocals.

I think they may have been Jack Carlton, Johnny Farrow, Dorsey Anderson, and Kay Little – according to the Discography of American Historical Recordings website.

  49. Neil on 10 June 2023

How lovely of Cindy to play Bing’s version of Randy Edelman’s The Woman on Your Arm today. One of my favourite Bings. Thanks Cindy. A lovely show for a lovely sunny day.

    • Cindy on 19 June 2023

Thank you Neil – so glad you enjoyed it. I love his voice! Do let me know if you’d like me to play a request for your next Saturday? Blessings on your day and keep listening!

      • Neil on 20 June 2023

That’s very kind Cindy. I’d love you to play something I first heard Alan Dell play on the wonderful Sounds Easy back when Radio 2 was good. Bing’s ‘The Longest Walk’. One of his best and a favourite of mine. Cheers Cindy.

        • Neil on 25 June 2023

Thank you Cindy for another programme packed with great music and for playing another Bing Crosby track.

  50. Tom Colmey on 10 June 2023

“Is this heaven?” “No, it’s just Serenade Radio in a lovely summer Saturday morning!” Great music guys 👍

  51. Karen on 10 June 2023

With you since the birds woke me up at 4am Johnny Mac. That’s the second time I’ve been awake this early on a Saturday recently and it’s another great show. I am starting to think I should ‘record you” for later listening on the days I manage to ignore to be birds and sleep. 😉

    • Johnny Mac on 10 June 2023

Yes, Karen, I’m up with the lark, my magpies and the whole aviary! Glad you’re tuning in. Sean Usher with his Late Show and myself are the bookended boys of the night here every Saturday morning!

  52. Anne Wade NC on 10 June 2023

    • David Yarnall on 12 June 2023

Thank you Anne and it’s very kind of you to take the trouble to make a comment.
I’m glad you like the new photo – I think it was about the tenth take! Too vain I am.
Got to be worth a mention sometime this week. Much appreciated.

  53. Dick Fisher on 9 June 2023

    Hi Roger
    Enjoying Soft Folkus immensely!
As a fellow presenter, it’s a bit self indulgent, but can I recommend to your ears, The Cox Family and “I am weary, let me rest?” A family singing together with such lovely musicianship and harmonies. I fill up every time I hear it!

    • Roger Williams on 11 June 2023

Dick, lovely to hear from you, thank you for the kind comments. I shall explore The Cox Family, with whom I am unfamiliar, with great interest.

      Roger

  54. Karen on 8 June 2023

😂😂😂down came the rain. 😂😂😂😂…. I’ve never heard that before.
Brilliant Sounds just like me mother singing 😂😂

  55. Karen on 7 June 2023

Hi Dick… Yes definitely play ‘ you’re a pink toothbrush ‘…. my mum has probably even got a picture of me in full pink toothbrush regalia at dancing school when I was little. I will spare you that though… 🙂

  56. Helen on 7 June 2023

Great Scot, Andy Marriott’s show this morning, was wonderful. Especially the tracks after 8am. Lovely. Come on everyone, tell me you were not dancing around your kitchen, or tapping your feet. Thankyou for making my morning extra happy. It certainly deserves an extra slice of Battenberg for all.

    • Karen on 7 June 2023

Hi Helen I am at work but I may have shuffled my feet a little as i went down the corridor to make tea😉

      • Helen on 7 June 2023

Hi Karen, SR really is very special isn’t it 😊. I hope you enjoyed your tea this morning, wishing you a relaxing evening.

  57. Fraser Sutherland on 6 June 2023

Re Richard 5/6/23. My family also from Patagonia. My father was born in Puerto Deseado, provincia de Santa Cruz. I was chuffed to read your comment from Welsh colony (Chubut, I suppose). Serenade Radio must be tremendous in that vast landscape.

  58. John Moorcroft on 6 June 2023

Sad to hear the news today of the passing of Astrud Gilberto. I’ve always liked her soft, melancholic singing. I think she was the voice of bossa nova. RIP

  59. Steve James Fan on 5 June 2023

Hi. Just wanted to say I love Steve James’ shows, particularly Late Night Extra. I save them all for personal listening pleasure on my computer. I have no fewer than 277 Steve James shows the best ever late 1960s nostalgia show

    • Steve James on 9 June 2023

277 shows? Goodness me that’s dedication on your part (and mine for that matter!) Thank you very much for listening. I’ll do my best to keep them coming.

  60. Richard on 5 June 2023

Hi. I m listening from Patagonia, Welsh colony, south Argentina. We lived with my family in Cape Town in 1979/1985 and visited Worcester often, as we had friends in there. I love your programme. Top.
    Best regards. Richard.

  61. Dave in London on 4 June 2023

There’s quite a community building up on the Listener Comments page. So here’s a challenge for us all. On David Corbett’s excellent prog (Sunday 4 June), who were the artists/orchestra/conductor performing Dvořák’s Song to the Moon in a light orchestral manner? Montague something? The “We have just played…” list doesn’t give that vital detail, my song identifier app didn’t know it, and the usual online sources are shrugging their collective shoulders too. Anyone?

  62. Karen on 4 June 2023

Thank you to Ed Wellman for playing a track from Adiemus this morning. Been to see it sung live recently and it’s beautiful . Lovely to wake up to .

  63. Victor Fassenfelt on 4 June 2023

Greetings from windy Clacton on Sea. What can i say, i have always loved the older songs ever sinced i watched Pennies from Heaven by Dennis Potter as a kid with my parents back in 1978. Later in my early 20s The Singing Detective blew me away with beautiful songs and noir vibes. Listening to David Jacobs “our kind of music” on Sunday nights was a must and since his show ended i never really found anything to compare. Four days ago i discovered Serenade and i am so glad i did. My era should be the crazy 80s, but Serenade indulges my love of all things 40s and 50s and 60s. Keep up the wonderful work, you folks are amazing.

    • Karen on 6 June 2023

Absolutely Victor. My generation should also be the crazy 80s… But there is nothing like Serenade for reminding us the best music came before. Glad you also found this little gem of a radio station.
I am originally from Canvey Island. Clacton used to be our holiday spot. I am quite jealous that you live there.

    • Annette Pender on 22 October 2023

Victor is that you? I’m listening in Scotland formerly of Essex and we used to play Motown, a lot of Marvin Gaye and the like. You always were an old soul. Yes it’s me Annette

  64. David Purll on 3 June 2023

Thank you Roger Williams for paying the suggested Tom Paxton record. It was greatly appreciated. If i may make a couple of other suggestions…. Girl on a Train – Pete Atkin, Sunny Godge Street – Donvan…. your programme brings back great memories but is a great learning ground too! Loved the stunning ” Scarecrow” by June Tabor, but have no idea what the ” mystery song” was….!! Keep up the good work!
    Best wishes

    • Roger Williams on 3 June 2023

Hello David, excellent suggestions that it will take a couple of weeks to organise. Next weeks show is already planned, a couple of surprises in there. The Scarecrow by June Tabor is an extraordinary creation. One I like to schedule, but not too often – it should be savoured, like a fine wine!

      • David on 3 June 2023

        Thank you Roger,

The problem now is that i keep thinking of other possibles, like Faking it by S & G featuring Beverly Martin referencing Donovan, Beth Neilsen Chapman ( would she fit your programme? I hope so), the wonderful Davy Graham, the early Fairport albums.. now see what your excellent programme has caused!! As you said a couple of weeks ago…”harm could come to a young lad like that “… or in my case a very old lad!
With very best wishes and thanks to you and Serenade Radio

  65. Helen on 1 June 2023

This mornings Bit of Nonsense., Morecambe and Wise..Absolutely Wonderful.. thankyou 🌞

  66. Martien on 29 May 2023

I live in the Netherlands and there is the same problem. No good old music.
Thanks to you there is on internet a great radiostation with beautyful music and a fine style of presentation. Nostalgia in a perfect form hopely for many many years to come.

Listening to the Dance Band Days properly for the first time tonight. What a great show. So different from Roger Williams other show yet equally as good. It just goes to prove genre of music doesn’t really matter… There are only 2 types of music good and bad … And SR only plays the good stuff. Thank you Roger for another corker of a show.

    • Steven on 30 May 2023

It’s great isn’t it? And if you miss it, it is repeated on Monday nights at 9:00 pm.

I, too, love the music of that era.

      • Roger Williams on 2 June 2023

Thank you fir the kind comments about Dance Band Days. The show is very much a team effort and I’ve learnt a lot about the music of the era courtesy of researcher John and producer Andy… (yes him).

  68. Helen on 28 May 2023

Wow, absolutely love the TV show. Superb..and a real treat for my birthday..(Sunday). I missed it yesterday, but I woke up this morning early on purpose to hear the programme..is it too early for Birthday cake 😃 Thankyou for a FAB show

    • Karen on 28 May 2023

Happy birthday Helen . Hope you have a lovely day.

Happy belated birthday Blessings Helen – hope it was a good one!

        • Helen on 31 May 2023

Hi Cindy, Thankyou so much for your lovely message and Birthday blessing. It means alot to me, truly. (I’m really sorry, I have only just seen your kind message).

          Helen

  69. Karen on 27 May 2023

Thank you for another great TV show. Mark loved hearing tom baker Dr who. ( He’s younger than me tom baker is his favourite) .. but you made it even better by playing the Gerry Anderson Anderson stuff .. especially UFO and space 1999. So if you could play Blake 7 and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy before the end of the series his TV theme tune heaven would be complete.

  70. David Purll on 27 May 2023

Glorious programme agzin on Friday26th from Roger Williams….the Fairports, Pentangle, Joni, and Rumer .as well and other great stuff too. … just perfect listening! Listening online in Kent to what has become my essential ” radio fix”. Thank you Serenade and thank you Roger. Could I suggest perhaps “The things I notice now” Tom Paxton?? Kind regards

    • Roger Williams on 28 May 2023

Hello David, thank you for your lovely comments! I shall definitely look out the Tom Paxton song you suggest which isn’t one I know – putting Soft Folkus together is a two way process – thank you!

  71. Sammy on 26 May 2023

I am new listener to Serenade Radio, because I have got fed up with the hearing the same music on the radio. I am over the moon a station like this exists because so far I have discovered real musical gems in this station.

  72. Karen on 26 May 2023

It’s amazing what memories flood back when listening to Serenade. In the chapel in the moonlight by the Batchelors was one of my Nan’s favourite songs and whenever she played it she would sing along and we would dance about the room. Then I became too teenager and self conscious to do that sort of thing. And now here I am loving it myself. Funny how everything goes full circle. Thank you for that lovely memory.

  73. James Chapman on 23 May 2023

Hi Andy Just thought I’d join you for an hour with a little glass of something, purely medicinal of course. Keep up the good work everyone on this station and all the best for the future.

  74. Karen on 23 May 2023

Oh…Dick Fisher.. woman in love Barbra Streisand … One of my absolute favourites.
I didn’t listen to Serenade all the time
in the days before you started… Just the odd show here and there.. but started listening most of the day about the time you started. It would most definitely not be the same without you. So congratulations on 100 shows and thank you for keeping me company while I work. Long may you continue.

    • Dick Fisher on 23 May 2023

Oh Karen! Every time I listen to that song, I get shivers down my spine. I wasn’t a great Streisand fan before “Guilty”, but there was obviously some magic happening between the Bee Gees and her. The second collaboration isn’t too bad, but judging by the success of the first, lots of people discovered Barbra Streisand for the first time with the resulting success of the album. Stay listening, tell a friend. There’s more to come!!

  75. Gabby on 22 May 2023

A new fan listening in from Murcia in southern Spain. Heard about this absolutely gorgeous radio station when my friend shared something on Facebook! Have started to spread the word already.

  76. Edward Marples on 22 May 2023

Can we please have more of Edmundo Ros singing just to annoy Andy Marriott?

    • dick fisher on 25 May 2023

Not to annoy Mr Marriott, but because I love his Trinidadian accent and stylish arrangements, I try to squeeze at least a couple of tunes from Edmundo each week between 10 and 12.

  77. John Bodman on 22 May 2023

Hello from Colliers Wood, South London. I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed The Oldies Show on Saturday morning with Jeff Owen.
Every song he played was fantastic, from Tony Christie to start right through to The Toys at the end. In between there was Cat Stevens, Mamas & Papas, Joni Mitchell and the wonderfully atmospheric Matthew Southern Comfort, amongst others. I loved them all and also the snippets of information and little stories in between the songs. Two hours of absolute joy and a very pleasurable trip back to my boyhood. Looking forward to next week already. Thank you Jeff.

  78. Tom Colmey on 20 May 2023

Hello Serenade Radio, Birmingham calling. Here are the results…….oops! That was last week, sorry. Seriously though, I’ve just set my alarm for 5am tomorrow (Sunday) to catch the Andy Marriott TV Show. I missed todays show so Surely that must demonstrate what a brilliant hour it is Mr M! – I just love how those memories come flooding back. Well done Serenade Radio, best thing since slice bread 👍

  79. Karen on 20 May 2023

Woke up at a ridiculous hour and couldn’t get back to sleep… So heard Johnny Mac for the first time. What a little gem tucked away in the early hours. Not sure I can commit to waking up at 3am every Saturday ! but when I do I will know what to do in future. Great show and great company . Thank you Johnny.

    • Johnny Mac on 20 May 2023

Thank you, Karen. Yes, Sean Usher with The Late Show from 1am and yours truly from 3am are here every Saturday for night owls and early birds everywhere!

  80. John in Germany on 19 May 2023

To all at Serenade radio. I live in Germany and have just discovered your radio, courtesy of the Mark Steyn website. I have had the music playing all day. How very refreshing to hear all of those old songs and artists. A real walk down memory lane, plus no adverts!

  81. Helen on 18 May 2023

Thankyou for the best Radio Station. Truly lovely.

  82. Karen on 18 May 2023

It was great to hear Charley pride… My dad had an album called ‘Sample Charley Pride’ And i spent much of my early years thinking his first name was actually ‘ Sample’… And in my head he will always be that. Great memories. Thank you.

  83. Karen on 16 May 2023

Thank you John Darvall for the Serenade Spotlight today with Kay Starr. Someone who has been famous since way before I was born yet I have only realised since listening to Serenade Radio how much I love her. Another 3 great songs for the Serenade tunes on my phone .. only for when I can’t listen to the radio obviously. !

  84. Edward Marples on 15 May 2023

I would like to take exception with Andy Marriott’s criticism of Edmundo Ros’ singing voice. While I agree he was no Matt Monroe he has a very distinctive and pleasant voice and reminds me of listening to the wireless in the early 1950’s before we had a telly. Love listening to Serenade Radio, much better than the BBC as all the proper DJ’s have gone (except Tony Blackburn and Johnny Walker). Can’t you get these two to do programmes for you?

  85. Karen on 14 May 2023

Steyn’s song of the week is just brilliant. We learn so much . Fascinating stuff.

  86. Helen on 13 May 2023

Oh what a wonderful programme with Cindy. Thankyou Cindy for always making my Saturdays bright. I am such a big fan of yours. Always have been. Best wishes

    • Cindy Kent on 15 May 2023

Thank you Helen! Would you like me to play a request for you next week? Spread the word!!!!

      • Helen on 15 May 2023

        Hi Cindy
        Wow, thankyou so much..
To have a song played, would be very special. Thankyou.
If ok, I would love to hear one of your own records, Love is More Than Words please? I adore it. I’m going to be 60 this month, and this would be a very special treat 🥰
        Helen

    • Cindy Kent on 22 May 2023

Thank you. So glad you like the station and I’m sure you are spreading the news!!! I’ll play you another song soon. Keep listening!!
      Blessings on your day

    • Helen on 24 May 2023

Thankyou very much Cindy, you are extremely kind, that would be very special. Wishing you a beautiful week. Helen

  87. Helen on 12 May 2023

David Yarnall’s programme, Super wonderful. Thankyou.

    • David Yarnall on 15 May 2023

Thank you Helen. I’m so glad you enjoy my couple of hours on Serenade Radio and thank you for taking the trouble to make your comment. Much appreciated.

  88. Karen on 12 May 2023

The twaddle is so funny today. We definitely need more Victor Borge 😅

  89. Karl on 10 May 2023

I listen to Serenade every day – hands down the best radio station in the UK – but can I just say what an absolutely superb selection of music David Yarnell has played this afternoon (Weds 10th May)…a wonderfully varied, eclectic mix and with versions of songs that were completely new to me..still 40 mins remaining – but if I could download it I’d probably listen to it again as soon as it’s finished! Thanks David….you’ve made this afternoon a joy

  90. Helen on 9 May 2023

Loved the Music Box programme last night, with a cup of cocoa.
Now, as always listening to Mr Marriott’s breakfast programme, with my morning tea. Perfect. Thankyou.

    • Simon McLean on 10 May 2023

Thank you, Helen – I think cocoa is an excellent accompaniment to Music Box!

  91. Karen on 8 May 2023

so, Andy Marriott just played Val Doonican and I’m pretty certain it was Durham Town because I was singing along… At least I thought it was but at the end he said it was 3 times a lady. Am I going mad? Maybe I’m still half asleep as it’s a bank holiday 🙂

    • Andy Marriott, Station Manager on 8 May 2023

Nope, I never mentioned 3 times a lady.
You have finally flipped! Sorry Karen 🙂

      • Karen on 8 May 2023

Finally? There are many who would say that happened years ago 🙂

        • Dick Fisher on 8 May 2023

I hate to contradict the boss, but I heard the same thing as you Karen. Now, who’s going mad?

          • Karen on 8 May 2023

Thank you Dick. I knew I liked you best 😂 Smashing show this morning by the way .

  92. Helen on 8 May 2023

Joseph Leo Bwarie – Stand By Me
Wonderful stuff..definitely a dance around the kitchen whilst making a brew number..love it

  93. Helen on 8 May 2023

  94. Phil Stephenson on 6 May 2023

I think Jeff is just checking who’s still listening. Wicked boy!

  95. Karen on 6 May 2023

Ooo Jeff Owen … Harry followed by Dianaand Candle in the Wind… Controversial 🙂 brilliant show today… Watching the coronation with sound down as you are too good to miss .

  96. Karen on 4 May 2023

Wow. Music while you work is fabulous today. For some reason I don’t listen to it regularly . What have I been missing. !

    • Russ on 5 May 2023

Wow – you are a great bunch of people – the music is excellent and you satisfy a real need in my life for company during the day and particularly at ‘dark’ times during the night – thank you so much

    • Brian Reynolds on 9 May 2023

You certainly should listen to it every day, Karen! The series was a mixture of light orchestral, dance orchestras, small instrumental ensembles, many of which were household names. It was also broadcast ‘live’. The orchestra which you enjoyed (Bernard Monshin and his Rio Tango Band) was one of the most popular and appeared in the series about 150 times over many years It was formed in the early ’30s. Although I only met Bernard Monshin once, we often spoke on the phone. He was very proud of his orchestra – and very meticulous about everything being just right. There were countless broadcasting bands and orchestras in those days and every one was encouraged to sound distinctive!

      • Karen on 12 May 2023

Thank you Brian. You have piqued my interest and I looked the program up on the internet and have just bought a book about it. Which unless there is another Brian Reynolds who is an authority on music while you work may be by you ! I shall have a read later.

  97. Helen on 3 May 2023

Wonderful music as always on Serenade..superb..Hard to ever pick favourites..though particulaly loved Matt Dusk – Angel Eyes, and Norman Wisdom, lovel.

  98. Karen on 2 May 2023

I find myself a bit depressed by the twaddle today… Getting close to 60 as I am… The idea that Mrs fanshawe was old at 67 is now most depressing…. 😂😂 Great to hear Joyce Grenfell though we did her tunes at dancing school when I was a nipper….. I thought 67 was old then 😂

  99. Ron Allen on 1 May 2023

Great Station ! Wonderful music . 🙂 I’m in Hurlock, Maryland. USA

  100. Jeff on 1 May 2023

Listened to Serenade Radio for the first time on Saturday and it was Cindy Kent’s show. Really enjoyed the music choices and particularly the great stories and facts Cindy talked about between some of the songs. And even heard some music that I had never experienced before! Many thanks for making my car journey much more enjoyable 🙂

    • Cindy Kent on 2 May 2023

Thank you! Glad you had a safe journey and that Serenade made it a pleasant one. Spread the word!

  101. Karen on 1 May 2023

Happy birthday for yesterday David Yarnall. Only 25 mins in and great show already.
