Does anyone who listen to this great Radio station remember the Robert farnon society.
It was where my love of light orchestral music started now played on music box and morning music plus through out the day.

    • Brian Reynolds on 17 April 2024

I’ve been a member for decades. It only exists as a website now, but the London Light Music Meetings Group still gets together twice yearly and our special guest on May 12th will be conductor Ronald Corp.

    • Simon McLean on 17 April 2024

I was a member for its last ten years or so, probably one of the younger members as I was 19 when I signed up – I still have all my issues of Journal Into Melody, which was an incredible resource of information.

    • Tony Clayden on 18 April 2024

When the Robert Farnon Society ceased operations in 2013, I established the London Light Music Meetings Group, which held its first meeting in 2014. We have been going ever since – with a necessary break during Covid.
We hold two events per year, at present at the Lancaster Hall Hotel, near Lancaster Gate underground station.
The forthcoming meeting will take place on Sunday May 12th, commencing at 2.00 pm. Full details may be found, along with a great deal of other interesting and useful information, on our website (search London Light Music)

  2. Dave not so sunny Donny! on 16 April 2024

Great show Simon I just love those instrumentals such a wonderful selection of classic gems, by the way have a great birthday 🎂🍷
    Best wishes
    Dave

    • Simon McLean on 16 April 2024

Thank you Dave – I was delighted to find out I share the day not only with Henry Mancini, but also Dusty Springfield and Vince Hill!

      • Steve in Worcs. on 24 April 2024

Aha, serious quality people – just like yourself – especially as Vince was a ‘Coventry kid’. Excellent programmes as always Simon, and a belated Happy Birthday.

  3. Colin J Rous on 15 April 2024

How wonderful to hear Jim Reeves singing “The Shifting Whispering Sands” to day on Andy’s Programme. I had only heard the version by Eamon Andrews before, but Jim’s sincerity is so superior. Thank you for this Gem.

  4. Karen Corfield on 15 April 2024

It is definitely a sign of good twaddle that you start laughing as soon as you realise what it is going to be. 😅😅

  5. Armando Loni on 14 April 2024

    Steve James, Sunday Breakfast.

Just listening to ‘Morning Dew’ by Bonnie Dobson. What a lovely, sad song. Things to come…..? Thanks, Steve 👍🏻

    • Steve James on 14 April 2024

Hi Armando, yes it’s a beautiful song written by Bonnie Dobson in the early 1960s, although I played her 1969 recording this morning. Its been covered by a wide range of singers and groups, from The Grateful Dead to Lulu, so plenty of other versions to investigate!

  6. Gary Dunne on 14 April 2024

I love the content and concept of Serenade Radio. I play the station all day and even night.
    It relaxes me

  7. Vanessa-Ann Dowsett on 13 April 2024

Just been listening to Adrian Jackson presenting Showstoppers. I thoroughly enjoyed it . I am a regular listener to this programme but it was so lovely to hear all of that information about the shows and singers. I also enjoyed greatly his programme Evergreen on Thursday evening. Thank you Serenade

  8. Karen on 12 April 2024

Thankyou to Andy for playing one of my absolute favourite songs today. The Rose by Bette Midler. Beautiful words . Lovely simple tune. Just great. Thank you .

  9. John Abbott on 12 April 2024

In cyber space radio’s vastness the only oasis I’ve found is Serenade.
Please have David Yarnall play I just Called To Say I love you by Stevie Wonder for John and his Hunnybunny Elizabeth.
    God bless you.

    • David Yarnall on 15 April 2024

Hi John. I’m so glad you enjoy Serenade Radio. Stevie Wonder? I’ll see what I can do.

    • David Yarnall on 22 April 2024

Thank you Ryan for your very kind words and I’m so glad you enjoy Serenade Radio and particularly my attempt at the dark art of broadcasting! A few hours at your place? Blimey you’d need a few chocolate biscuits in the cupboard!!

    • David Yarnall on 22 April 2024

John, hope you heard Stevie Wonder.

  10. Philip Cartwright on 12 April 2024

Wonderful day today when I tuned in to hear banjos playing the Music While You Work ‘Calling All Workers’ theme tune. It took me back to the late 1940s hearing Troise and his Banjoliers doing the same. I was about 12 or 13 years old listening to the BBC Home Service and Light Programme during the school holidays. Viva Serenade Radio

    • Brian Reynolds on 15 April 2024

Troise and his Banjoliers were the most popular band on MWYW, so in the event of Troise’s untimely death in 1957, the producers insisted on Jack Mandel taking over the band immediately. This he did, until their final broadcast in 1983. You can hear them again on Serenade Radio this Wednesday.

  11. Andy Grahamme on 12 April 2024

Simon McLean….of course I’m a huge fan of Serenade and all the shows, but I really love your lunchtime instrumental hour! The music is so laid back..and cool…I’m almost tempted to say groovy! Keep it going..a real treat!!

    • Simon McLean on 15 April 2024

Thank you, Andy – I will happily take groovy!

  12. Helen on 12 April 2024

Ron Goodwin And His Orchestra – 633 Squadron, played on Andy’s programme this morning, was Superb!
    Thankyou Serenade Radio,
You truly are the very best in Easy Listening.

    • Allen Ellis on 14 April 2024

Remembering Ron Goodwin, what a kind generous and humorous man is was. They do not come like him very often.

  13. Andi on 11 April 2024

My dad is 95 and not well. I am playing Serenade Radio all day for him and he is loving it. It is really helping him to relax. The fact that there are no ads or nasty news stories makes it so perfect for him in his current state. Thank you and well done.

  14. Suzy on 11 April 2024

What a delight hearing Hylda Baker’s ‘She Knows You Know’ yesterday, Andy. Thank you so much. That became quite a family saying of ours when we were kids that I’d forgotten about. You just don’t get great characters on TV or radio like that these days, do you, but thankfully we can still find them on the one and only, utterly unique Serenade Radio.

  15. Bernard Lazenbury on 8 April 2024

Hi Roger – boy did that mention of William Appleby shake the memory tree. With Gladys Whitred they presented “Singing Together” which brought back recollections of being herded into the classroom to sing some great songs. At age 8 my first intro to traditional English folk. I’ve revisited a few of them on Spotify and it would be great to hear any of them on your show.
    Westering Home. The Corries
    Bingo. John Langstaffe
    Twankydillo, Maddy Prior
The Drummer & The Cook. The Robert Shaw Chorale
    The Lincolnshire Poacher. The Teacups

Thanks for an always interesting and enjoyable programme.

    Kind regards
    Bernie Lazenbury

    • Roger Williams on 8 April 2024

      Bernie,

What a lovely response! I was prompted to mention this after I picked up a copy of a Singing Together booklet on Hucknall Market.

Your memories are just great and I will feature some of your choices on future shows. For reasons too boring to go into it’ll take a while to schedule your choices, but bear with me and it will happen. Lovely to hear from you.

      Roger

  16. Vanessa-Ann Dowsett on 8 April 2024

I am one , who, like many have trouble sleeping. This week I was treated to the fabulous Peter Tomlinson show in the early hours of this morning. Thank you Serenade and like Jillian Powell who have posted before myself, I too enjoy Mark Steyn with his record of the week

  17. Jillian Powell on 7 April 2024

Found you via the wonderful Mark Steyn. Love, love, love it. Just wish you had a dedicated DAB radio channel.

  18. Suzy on 7 April 2024

I love waking up to Ed Wellman on Saturdays and Sundays and so wish he was on all week to start the day with his gentle approach and unique music choice and knowledge. It feels like he’s talking just to me. Yes, Ed, I’m sure I’m not the only one responding back to things you say to us! x

  19. Dave Phillips on 7 April 2024

Oops! Not normally up this time on a Saturday morning! Wonderful

  23. Karen on 6 April 2024

Another great show today Johnny M . Thankyou for playing Janis Ian . What a beautiful voice she has. I used to think that was my theme tune when i was a ‘tortured teenager” 😂

    • Johnny Mac on 6 April 2024

Thank you, Karen. It’s a very poignant song. And, many thanks for tuning into A Little Night Music – the best time of the day!

  24. Barbara Heathcote on 5 April 2024

Hi Dick, I agree Vic Damone didn’t get the recognition he deserved yet I think he had a great vocal range. After his death I lobbied a particular tv station that regularly showed tributes of deceased artists but to no avail. So thank you serenade radio. I can hear all these wonderful artists like Vic, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams etc, and a new one for me Jerry Vale.

  25. Helen on 5 April 2024

Hearing Sam Brown sing – There’ll Always Be An England, was Absolutely Wonderful.

    • Peter Mangan on 5 April 2024

I totally agree with you Helen,in this day and age one could never imagine the BBC playing it.Thank you Andy.

  26. Avril on 4 April 2024

Serenade radio ,you have filled our days with joy-such a great antidote to the doom and gloom we are bombarded with on a daily basis from other media outlets. Love everything you play and all the comments in between the music.perfect. Just wondering from your vast archive whether you ever play anything from the Andy Prior Orchestra. Living in Blackpool we used to hear them regularly when they occupied a season long slot at the Blackpool Tower doing their bit to keep the music of Glen Miller and co alive during the80s. Are they still around? Many thanks to all the team Hope you know how much your radio is loved

  27. Steve in Worcs. on 4 April 2024

What a fabulous recording that was of Max Bygraves Remembering Jimmy Durante, just now. Huge special thanks to Max’s son for sending it. Two of my favourite entertainers also, Andy – Jimmy was truly unique.

‘It’s so important to make someone happy’ 😊

  28. Barbara Heathcote on 3 April 2024

Loving hearing Vic Damone Linger Awhile. It’s impossible to have a favourite Vic song, his vocal range is beautiful. Just listen to the end of All the Things You Are. He had the power as well in La Vita. And he often sings in Italian as well.

  29. Colin J Rous on 3 April 2024

This is a wonderful station but I am disappointed that, after listening to “Music while you work”, it is not followed by “Mrs.Dale’s Diary”!!!!! Hey Ho! Fantastic listening though.

  30. Barbara Heathcote on 2 April 2024

Hi. Roger if there is another Children’s Favourite programme may I suggest Thumbelina by Danny Kaye please.

    • Roger Williams on 2 April 2024

Hello Barbara, No date has been fixed for another Children’s Favourites but there’s no doubt that Monday’s show was very well received so it’s highly likely that we’ll do it again. It’s hard to imagine a show without Danny Kaye – the problem is there are so many to choose from. No promises but I’ll put Thumbelina on the list. Roger

  31. David Small on 2 April 2024

Thank you Roger for such a lovely programme Childrens Favourites I sang along to all the somgs and amazingly I remembered all the words. More please It brought back so many happy memories of Saturday mornings on the old Light Programme with Uncle Mac I still have my Uncle Mac annual.

    • Roger Williams on 2 April 2024

Hello David, thank you for yor lovely comments. An Uncle Mac annual? Never knew there was such a thing. A collectors item I reckon. One for The Antiques Roadshow I reckon.

  32. Linnette on 1 April 2024

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Roger for a wonderful dip into my childhood with his Children’s Favourites programme just now. I was thrilled to be mentioned and so glad My Brother by Terry Scott was included. I hope you can do that again.

    • Roger Williams on 2 April 2024

Hello Linnette, lovely to hear from you and a delight to play My Brother for you. Thank you for being there and making your request. I think there may well be more to come…

  37. Helen on 31 March 2024

    Happy Easter to all.

  38. Ryan on 30 March 2024

I’ve been listening since December and I absolutely love the station. I just sent a donation to keep the music playing.

If you ever need a suggestion for an album of the week what about something from Chris Connor? I would love to hear her on SR. She’s criminally underrated and her 1950s albums including her Gershwin recordings are a treat.

  39. Diane Meyer on 28 March 2024

Absolutely am thrilled to find this station. As a child of the ‘50’s this sparks so many fond memories. I am from Springfield Missouri USA and love love love the English DJ’s. Have told so many about this station. Keep up the wonderful music.

  40. Alan Beggs on 27 March 2024

One of the wonderful things about Serenade Radio is the dated names of many of the performers. Here’s a few – girls are not called this these days! Doris, Mavis, Judith, Shirley, Irene, Peggy to name but a few.

  41. Barbara Heathcote on 26 March 2024

Hi. Just sent a small donation in appreciation of a wonderful radio station. Great presenters and my kind of music. You can buy some Easter eggs.

  42. Sheila on 26 March 2024

I am in my late eighties and what a pleasure Serenade Radio is, I can listen to music that reminds me my of my past
    Thank you

  43. Karen on 26 March 2024

What an absolutely lovely and uplifting music while you work today from Sydney Sax Strings. Thank you

  44. Dave Phillips on 25 March 2024

    Hi Steve,
I listen to your regular shows at the weekend and I must say the musical content and the little additions of information you put in are excellent.
Your show at the weekend was fantastic because of the real quality of some terrific music of the 60s and the Latin music what a terrific combination and a sheer joy to listen too.
Please May it continue and thanks Steve for making my weekend get of to a brilliant start.
I did like the mention of the late great radio2 presenter Ray Moore and your musical tribute of the Mike Leander orchestra and the Beatles song Here, There and Everywhere, what a great piece it lifts the hair on the back my of the neck when i hear this Terrific sound!!
    Thank you Serenade Radio.
    Best wishes Dave

    • Steve James on 25 March 2024

Thank you for your very kind comments Dave, I’m glad Serenade gets your weekends off on the right note!

  45. Phil on 24 March 2024

Soft Folkus, a delight from start to finish. A crown studded with gems.

  46. Martyn on 24 March 2024

The Steve James show on Saturday night was absolutely brilliant. Especially liked the songs by Mike Hazelwood, Nirvana, Vashti Bunyan, and Nick Garrie. Many thanks Mr James.👍😊

    • Steve James on 24 March 2024

Thanks Martyn, I’m glad you enjoyed Late Night Extra. It’s wonderful having the opportunity on Serenade to bring these rarely heard tracks to a wider audience. I’ll keep digging them out!

  47. Andy Grahamme on 23 March 2024

Home of the Stars with Kevin Taylor is a lovely programme…excellent music and very stylish presentation..I often end my weekends listening!

  48. Adrian Long on 22 March 2024

Simon I really like you music programme on serenade radio also I like morning music from 6 to 7 am.
    Don’t want say anything really,
    But Have you ever played.
Peter hope’s rings around kerry or any others by him.
Or Charles Williams, Rhythm on the rails,
And Tom Tom the piper’s son, Workshop
Or any by Sidney Torch. Robert Farnon
    Trevor Duncan.
They made great arrangements as well as writing.
Cheerful music, I remember it on the light programme and the brilliant Friday night is music night.
I didn’t like Light Orchestral Music when I was in school it had be pop music stones, aminals hollies, etc,
Then one day I completely change to enjoying light orchestral music it was the Olympics games in Tokyo theme called Tokyo melody it had a brilliant flipside Teatime in Tokyo plus sounds orchestral cast your fate to the wind had them on 7” single weared them out because I played so much.
Sorry I’m not that good of letter writer.

    • Simon McLean on 25 March 2024

Hi Adrian, thanks for your suggestions, all of them excellent – I do have Peter Hope’s Ring Of Kerry suite, which is lovely! I’ve also got Helmut Zacharias’ Tokyo Melody, and a large number of other tracks by him which I definitely need to include in future shows.

  49. Barbara Heathcote on 21 March 2024

Hi Andy, listening to Norman Wisdom. Last year on holiday in Italy, one of our waiters originated from Albania so I asked him if he knew that Norman was the king of Albania, he’d never heard of him. Anyway chap on table next to us started singing Dont Laugh at me cause I’m a fool. Think he thought we were all drunk🤣. Wasn’t guv honest .

  50. Robert Moskalik on 21 March 2024

Thanks to Andy Marriott for having the wonderful idea of playing this type of music, especially Jo Stafford. I have always loved this lady’s voice and never tire of hearing it played on Serenade Music! I say- keep up the good work, Mariott!

  51. Doug on 19 March 2024

Thanks to Mark Steyn for pointing my ears here ; the best !

  52. Jeff Shaffer on 17 March 2024

A note to Johnny Beerling: I really enjoy your musical selections. As a newbie to the big band sound, I’m curious if you post the play list for your show?

    • Serenade Radio on 18 March 2024

      Hi Jeff
If you go to the home page of our website while Johnny’s programme is on you can see the last 10 tunes that have been played. Hope that helps

  53. Barbara Heathcote on 16 March 2024

Hi, just listening to Eddie Fisher singing Hold Me takes me back to early 60s when I bought my first ever record, PJ Proby singing the same song , absolutely loved it, had no record player though 🤣 so could only play when visiting friends, Didn’t realise it was that old.

  54. Andy Grahamme on 16 March 2024

Stuart Linnell…such a smashing programme today Stuart…and its only ten to one!! Thanks for playing Robert Goulet..one of my favourite songs …good wishes as always…

    • Stuart Linnell on 16 March 2024

Thank you Andy. Best wishes to you too.

  55. David on 16 March 2024

The Saturday oldies programme is just the best!
Such a varied and unexpected selection of music. Jeff avoids the obvious and predictable and produces such a fine show. Other stations are nowhere near as good as this

  56. Mr David Phillips on 14 March 2024

    Hi Steve
Thanks for another great ORGAN OF MUSIC SHOW, featuring those two genius composers GOERGE & IRA GERSHWIN’S compositions what a terrific combination when played on a real selection of the pipe / theatre organs vintage instruments.
Best wishes Steve and to all the team / presenters at SERENADE please continue to keep this music for our generations.
    Thank you
    Dave Sunny Donny😎👏

  57. Sandra Grant on 14 March 2024

Good afternoon, I’m listening to Serenade now (John Darvall while I deal with my general admin at home which isn’t fun, but it’s made to be a pleasant experience as I dance around the room to the lovely songs being played. All the presenters are excellent. When I wake up I subject myself to the latest depressing news then quickly switch over to listen to Andy Marriott who thankfully restores my sanity and good humour and sets me up for the day. I’m so grateful to him. I love his humorous comments, his tone of voice and choice of music. I look forward to the 8.30 ‘bit of nonsense’. Thanks to you all for the ‘chicken soup for my soul’ that you provide (even though I’m vegetarian 🙂

  58. Barbara Heathcote on 13 March 2024

Hi Andy, I have the Linger Awhile LP, it would be great to have it as LP of the week. His rendition of In the Still of the Night is fabulous. I have over 15 vinyls plus several dvds so a lot to choose from.

    • Andy Marriott on 15 March 2024

      Stay tuned Barbara, coming soon!

  59. Arthur on 13 March 2024

Listening to this ole house on the way to work in the car… And after all these years of hearing the jolly tune ive just realised its about a man getting ready to die. Well that’s started the day on a cheery note 😀

  60. Barbara Heathcote on 12 March 2024

Hi Andy, I wouldn’t have known that was the New Christie minstrels, the only song I can remember them singing is 3 Wheels on my wagon. Perhaps something to play sometime.

    • Andy Marriott on 12 March 2024

      Hi Barbara,

Yes, they are most famous for three wheels, yet it is nothing like the rest of their stuff.
We’ll have it as nonsense one day soon.

      All the best.

  61. John Bodman on 12 March 2024

A little late but I wanted to write in and say how much I enjoyed listening on Saturday afternoon. I am not usually able to listen then but by chance I happened to be home alone and feeling under the weather I decided to spend time with my musical companion Serenade Radio. I absolutely loved Cindy Kent! Her comment about when she was staying at a friend’s place watching the birds was priceless “there was some kind of pigeon and a lot of little birds…you can tell I am no ornithologist…” I needed to smile and I laughed out loud. The music was lovely also. The Beatles, Cilla and Roy Orbison in amongst artistes of a bygone era you only hear on Serenade. To say I was entertained would be an understatement. Then I sat and listened intently to the Crooners Club. Wow! What an informative and interesting hour. Thank you, John Walton. Who knew that Dick Haymes led such a colourful life! I rounded off my Saturday in the delightful and charming company of Kevin Taylor coming all the way from the American desert. A perfect day of music and companionship. Thank you Serenade Radio for such excellent shows.

    • John Walton on 13 March 2024

Thanks for listening, John. Glad the ‘Saturday gang’ managed to cheer you up. As I believe Dick Fisher said recently, if we’re to avoid the old, boring ‘This is, that was’ groove, a good way is to give a few snippets about the song or the singer. Very pleased you appreciate it!

  62. Helen on 11 March 2024

How lovely to hear Bobby Darin and his Album, Oh! Look at Me Now is going to be Album of the week. Wonderful.

  63. Karen on 9 March 2024

Ive come to my favourite thinking spot to work some things out. The sun is out. The sea is lapping near my feet.. the only thing different since i last did this is i now have SR to provide the musicall background. Thank you Stuart Linnell for making a lovely spot even more perfect. Great show.

    • Stuart Linnell on 9 March 2024

Thank you Karen. Lovely to know that you’re enjoying the show. Your favourite place sounds idyllic.

  64. Dave Sunny Donny👏👍😎 on 7 March 2024

    Hi Steve
Yet again you have put a variety of organ gems together love the Glenn Miller slot it was a sheer joy to hear all “breathing body “ of these fine and much missed great instruments.
It was also great to hear Phil Kelsall, I watch this young man grow into a terrific organist, succeeding the one time greats at Blackpool tower and the Wurlitzer,Reg Dixon, Ernest Broadbent and of course other great organists that have graced the Blackpool showpiece.
Thanks Steve again for a really enjoyable half hour
Best wishes to all at Serenade presenters for such a great choice of music for our generations

  65. Colin Rous on 7 March 2024

Serenade Radio has filled a gap in my life. When we were growing up post-war, we used to listen to the wireless to keep us from thinking about all the problems of life. Serenade has taken me back to the days of Alan Keith on the Light Programme and the comedy of Take it from here, Garrison Theatre, The Huggets, and so many more. Thank you all so much. All I need now is to hear The Ovaltinies and İ’ll be fully satisfied!!!!!

  66. Joyce Spark on 7 March 2024

I listen all day long. I particularly like Andy Marriott’s show and Sing Something Simple on Sunday and the show that follows it that highlights one song with its history and recordings. A true radio gem in the radio wasteland here!

  67. Colin Rous on 6 March 2024

Thank you Serenade, and especially Andy Marriot, for playing “The Little Red Monkey” by the cast of “Take it from here”. Such wonderful memories of our family sitting around the wireless listening to programmes such as this. Well done Serenade Radio – you do so much for our older generation! 69. KIM on 4 March 2024

We’ve been listening to Serenade for a year or so. It’s on most of the day and some nights. We don’t listen to anything else . Thankyou for a fantastic radio station. A note to Andy I love silly songs and have made a list , some I bet you’ve never heard of. Let me know if you wish to see the list for your 8.30 slot. Couldn’t live without serenade

  70. Andy Grahamme on 4 March 2024

Andy Marriott is such a unique and entertaining broadcaster…he would have fitted in perfectly on Radio 2 in the golden era of Ray Moore..Tel and Jimbo etc. Talking of Radio 2..if you miss those great days, then Serenade Radio is for you…terrific music..quality presentation…across the week..long may it continue!!

    • Ian Senior on 4 March 2024

I sometimes hear Ray Moore talking when I listen to Andy M.

      • Steve in Worcs. on 8 March 2024

        You too, Ian? 😊

I was just reading the Variety obituary on the marvellous Steve Lawrence (RIP) this morning, when Andy mentioned his passing and played “I Was a Fool To Let You Go”. Serenade is a station that still plays songs by “Mr. and Mrs. Showbiz”, and with all of the other content and excellent presenters and contributors, it is a fabulous station.

    • Colin Rous on 4 March 2024

Just what is needed to start Monday! Thank you Andy for playing all the best music from my era, and especially Ronnie Aldrich and his piano; so many memories.

    • James Morgan on 4 March 2024

I love this show with Andy’s dry and gentle humour to make me laugh out loud. 🙂

    • John Hall on 4 March 2024

Best start to the day, and a second helping pm, keep it up Andy!

Lovely to hear Val Doonican sing “Daughter” this morning. Reminded me of my dear Dad.
    Thankyou Serenade Radio,.
The Very Best in Easy Listening!

  73. Jim on 4 March 2024

Hate to be a downer but Anita Bryant was vile a homophobe and and disavowed her Lesbian Granddaughter Very disturbing to hear her sing on this once delightful station.

    • Andy Marriott on 4 March 2024

      Hi Jim,
We are a MUSIC station. Are you suggesting that we vet every artist we play, and only play those whose political views align with yours?

  74. Walt on 3 March 2024

    Beautiful music! A perfect station!

  75. Dave sunny Donny😎 on 3 March 2024

    • Brian Bunn on 2 March 2024

All are excellent, but I reckon a special mention for Adrian Jackson and Andy Marriott

      Thank you James.

  79. Barbara Heathcote on 1 March 2024

Just heard Sammy Davis Jnr I Gotta be Me. Love that song. Such a powerful voice.

  80. Ian from Leics on 1 March 2024

John Darvall asked for suggestions for the Serenade Spotlight feature earlier today. May I suggest a trio from Edward Woodward from his album “Feelings” e.g. “They didn’t believe Me” , Can’t Smile without you” and “The Way you look Tonight” to name but three. Though not regarded in the top echelon of singers, Edward is so under-rated. John D continues to provide us with an excellent show each weekday afternoon. Many thanks. Ian

  81. Dave from sunny Donny😎 on 29 February 2024

    Hi again Steve
Another enjoyable broadcast of theatre/ pipe organ music ,it’s so wonderful to hear this music ofyesterday year.
I often visit an organ society in Haworth/ Bircoates in north Nottinghamshire where they hold concerts on the last Sunday of each month.
They have a CHRISTIE of which raises from the basement up on to the stage with the organist playing away,
It is truly a great spectacle when this happens,
It has to be a huge thank you the the enthusiasts that give their time up to keep this fine instrument in very good working order and keep the sheer enjoyment the sound of this fantastic instrument 👏😀🎼

    • Steve Ashley on 29 February 2024

Thanks again, Dave! I wish I could get to concerts from time to time, but the cost of travel from Spain is now just crazy, and the UK is also so expensive. But I am going to an organ weekend in St. Louis in April – my yearly treat!

      • Mr David Phillips on 29 February 2024

Thanks Steve for your reply, I really hope you have a very enjoyable time in St Louis in April.
        Beast wishes
        Dave😎

Thanks for another Ella number, especially with Louis. It really makes my day, the first lady of song. Thanks to all your colleagues who also feature Ella. Guess what? I am a fan !!

  85. John on 26 February 2024

Folks, your music format is second to none. We love the music and all the presenters. Your “DJ’s” add warmth and humour to cold grey winter days. Thank you.

  86. Helen on 24 February 2024

I enjoyed Ed Wellman’s Dawn Chorus Programme this morning, As I do every Saturday and Sunday morning.
One of my favourite pieces of music was played today,
    The Watermill – Ronald Binge.
A beautiful version from Charles Gerhardt.
    A real treat.

    • Ed Wellman on 24 February 2024

Thank you, Helen. The Watermill is such a lovely piece with gentle melodies weaving between the flutes and violins. Thank you for being with the Dawn Chorus, it’s a lovely time of day for us all to share with the music. Especially as we are now achieving sunrise in time for Steve!

    • Suzy on 25 February 2024

And I loved Elizabethan Serenade and a little later, the wonderful Piano Guys whose videos I’ve seen on YouTube and Ed too recommended them. Today I enjoy the Ladies in Lavender music. Problem is, it’s so gentle, lovely and Ed’s voice is oh so very relaxing …… I miss some as I doze back off into a contended sleep.

  87. Daren Overington on 23 February 2024

Hi Andy, great to hear Vic Damone ❤️. I have that LP plus 15 others, (think I said my favourite singer ) 🤣. Plus several compilation CDs. A great LP is “Sings the Great Songs” including hits like On the Street Where you Live and An Affair to Remember.

Great to hear some good old fashioned theatre organ music as well as the pipe organs of yesterday year, please keep up the great work of this by-gone era.
I shall certainly look forward to your programmes now that I have a great taste on Thursday evenings.
Many thanks Steve for a really enjoyable programme.

Many thanks for your appreciative comments, Dave! It’s hard to get this music to the public these days, so I’m really grateful to Andy for continuing to broadcast my shows.

  92. Suzy on 22 February 2024

Waiting to hear the hilarious The Law is Comin’ Fer Yer, Pa(w) again, pretty please, Andy! Can’t find it anywhere on Spotify or the others, just old 45rpm singles for sale on eBay.

  93. Paul on 21 February 2024

I’ve just installed the iOS version of your new app and it works perfectly, thank you! This could be a real game changer in reaching a whole new audience of iPhone/iPad users. 🙏🏻

    • Suzy on 22 February 2024

That slipped me by … how wonderful Serenade Radio having an iPhone app now. Thanks for the tip-off, Paul. I had saved the weblink to my Home Screen but this is so much slicker. So SR is now on my Apple HomePod via TuneIn (or rather Toon In), my kitchen via Bose speaker and my car via the app and bluetooth radio. One happy bunny.

  96. Dave from Sunny Donny😎🎺🎷 on 20 February 2024

    Good morning Dick Fisher,
I really look forward to your weekday 1o am program ‘s , it’s a real joy to listen to a great selection of song’s and string/ orchestral that you play daily on your show.
It was great to hear Klaus Wunderlick on a much missed organ piece of music,I just love organ music and again since the BBC took of their organist entertains featuring great organ players from theatre to more modern electric organs, however it was a real joy and a bonus to my ears that SERENADE RADIO thanks to you Dick and your programme directors gave an airing to these much missed instruments.
Thanks to you all at SERENADE RADIO for making a great music lover happy today.
Best wishes to you all at SERENADE RADIO.😀👍👏

    • dick fisher on 20 February 2024

      Hi Dave
Old Klaus did record some amazingly good arrangements of popular tunes. It’s a pity we don’t hear any recordings using the newer “organs” (or should that be keyboards) that are now available. At least we have Steve Ashley’s “Hot Pipes” here at Serenade keeping the traditional forms of organ music very much alive! One thing’s for certain, you won’t find our kind of music anywhere else!

  97. Wendy on 20 February 2024

I could listen to Stan Freberg in the comedy slot everyday. It makes me laugh out loud. The perfect antidote when things are generally a bit rubbish. Where else would we ever hear those wonderful tracks. Thank you.

  98. James on 20 February 2024

I love everything aboutMusic Box: Simon’s relaxed and affable style, the choice of music (Dankworth today was brilliant) and probably most of all, I get so much identification as a fellow sore-kneed charity shop crate digger. Music Box is a real highlight of my day.

    • Simon McLean on 20 February 2024

Thank you very much – nice to meet a fellow sufferer of charity shop knee, there ought to be a support group! I’ve seen a few fans of Dankworth’s earlier work being rather dismissive of the ‘Off Duty ‘ album, but naturally I disagree – it took me years to find it too. Thanks for listening!

  99. Natausha on 18 February 2024

Absolutely enjoy the Soft Folkus program. It has me searching and looking up the artists presented and finding new favorites. Thank you!

    • Roger Williams on 20 February 2024

Just listened to Mark Stein’s show telling about Frank’s Strangers in the Night.
I have the following quote in a gift from a friend:
To do is to be. Plato.
To be is to do. Sartre
Do be do be do. Sinatra.
