That is excellent news that Hot Pipes is returning…it is a great show – and quite unique – even for Serenade radio! 😎👍

  10. Ron Candy on 20 December 2023

It is a fantastic radio station and it does bring back memories of the light program how I remembered it from when I was a child and Radios used to be on and there appear to be a lot of orchestra music and it was always entertaining so keep up the good work you guys and have a fantastic Christmas and Prosperous, 2024

  11. Anne W on 19 December 2023

  12. Karen on 18 December 2023

I didnt hear the carols this morning but am listening this evening… And the chorale singing is so beautiful. Walking around the area where i live now its dark , people have their xmas lights on and im listening to it on earbuds. Just lovely . Thank you Cindy.

  13. Andy Grahamme on 18 December 2023

The Christmas offerings have been so refreshing on Serenade…obviously as always a lot of thought has gone into the music. Ive been reminded a lot of the Christmases past in my younger days. Thanks guys….and for all the great music you play all year. Its a joy to listen. From an old Radio 2 Producer…Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all xxxx

    • Mary Williams on 18 December 2023

Totally agree. I’m loving the music today!

Absolutely. It has been so refreshing to hear such a wonderful variety of great Christmas music

  14. Jeff G on 17 December 2023

What a fantastic show tonight from Kevin Taylor….the best mix of Christmas/Yuletide themed songs I’ve heard on the radio for years….thanks Kevin…..already looking forward to next weekends shows

    • Kevin Taylor on 18 December 2023

  15. Martyn Bassey on 17 December 2023

Really enjoyed the Steve James show again on Saturday night. Vashti Bunyan, Honeybus, and Dorothy Ashby were just three of the fab artistes featured last night. Many thanks.

    • Steve James on 18 December 2023

Thank you very much Martyn, I’m so pleased you like the music choices. The show really is a labour of love. Next weekend I’ll be including some rare tracks with a wintry feel which I hope you will enjoy. There will be a touch of frost in the perfumed garden…!

  16. Karen on 17 December 2023

Laying on the sofa in the dark with the Christmas tree lights on listening to the Dawn Chorus is pretty perfect. Thank you for the Messiah track. Beautiful. Happy Christmas Ed. Thank you for a brilliant show…you have made weekend lie ins a thing of the past.

    • Ed Wellman on 17 December 2023

Happy Christmas Karen, thank you for being part of the Dawn Chorus and your kind words. You’ve prompted me to get the tree decorated so I can do the same this week whilst listening to Cindy with her hour of carols from 6. Who needs a lie in anyway?!

  17. Barbara on 15 December 2023

It was lovely to hear Deanna Durbin tonight, I first her sing Nessun Dorma in the Film His Butler’s Sister before it became popular by Pavarotti.

  18. Edward Marples on 15 December 2023

Could anyone please tell me what Andy Marriot played as the vintage tune at 07.30am this Friday morning.

    • Serenade Radio on 15 December 2023

Hi Edward, It was Lew Stone and His Band – Winter Wonderland

      • Edward Marples on 16 December 2023

        Thanks very much

  19. David Purll on 14 December 2023

I really love John’s Jazz Hour… a superbly curated and presented selection of so much good music!

  20. John Hutley on 12 December 2023

As we approach the end of another year, may I heartily congratulate Andy and all the team at Serenade Radio for a superb 2023. The music is, of course, what attracts us in the first instance but undoubtedly, in my opinion, each and every one of the presenters deserve the highest praise for the obvious enthusiasm and dedication they put into their shows as well as the manner in which they communicate those assets to us, their listeners.
Serenade Radio – the station where the presenters talk TO their audience not AT them!
Best wishes to all of you and here’s hoping for a successful 2024.

  21. MR JOHN HUGGETT on 12 December 2023

How about Margaret Whiting I can’t remember anything played by her?

    • Andy Marriott, Station Manager on 12 December 2023

      Hi John,
I think this is a case of very bad timing!
We play Margaret Whiting songs every couple of days on Serenade Radio!
Sooner or later we’ll play one when you are tuned in 🙂
      All the best.

    • Anne W on 14 December 2023

John Huggette hope you were tuned into John Darvalls show today 😊. Three in a row from Margaret Whiting😎 what a treat❤️ 👏🏻

      • John Huggett on 15 December 2023

Oh no! I missed it, but I do have a CD

  22. Brian Bunn on 11 December 2023

Hi Andy, really looking forward to your non-stop Christmas 🎄☃️songs 🎵 from next Monday 😊. Those songs from the 40’s/50’/60’s are such a refreshing change from the same rubbish played to death on other radio stations ! It’s so good to hear different versions of retro Christmas 🎄☃️ music by different artists, and the Christmas “instrumentals” are superb 😊.
Keep up the good work Andy, your radio station is so appreciated. Happy Christmas 🎄☃️ to you and everyone else at Serenade

  23. Martyn Bassey on 10 December 2023

I don’t know where Steve James finds the songs for his Saturday night show. All I know is that I enjoy hearing these obscure gems. I really liked the Shona Laing song he played last night. Hidden treasures indeed. Many thanks Mr James 👍

  24. Su Roys on 9 December 2023

I have sent you a little something to keep you in tea and mince pies this festive season, in grateful thanks for the wonderful weekend Dawn Chorus. Merry Christmas to you all. Best Wishes, Su

  25. Paul Allen on 9 December 2023

Good evening Mr Usher… sounding great fella!!

  26. Stephen Wassell on 8 December 2023

Andy Marriott’s programme is a daily joy and I refuse to get up until I’ve heard the daily “nonsense” at 08.30. I love the way he always says “under the big W” after a Durante song and “that was ghastly!” following ” The Little Red Monkey”. You have brought a great deal of pleasure to someone who used to listen avidly to the Light Programme. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
PS. I too thought Ray Moore was an incomparably brilliant presenter taken far too young. God Bless him.

  27. peter paul mangan on 6 December 2023

Andy Marriott’s comments about Ray Moore were so true,he was a wonderful and much missed broadcaster, fortunately for us,Andy is top presenter too.

    • Wendy on 8 December 2023

That is so true Peter. When i was a student and really homesick ( a ‘few’years ago now😉) the brilliant Ray Moore was so important every day when i woke up. Setting the day perfectly. Andy is very much like him. So we re very lucky. I would love to hear a programme about Ray in the Radio Heroes series.

      • David Yarnall on 13 December 2023

Wendy, I worked with Ray Moore for a couple of weeks on Radio 2 in the mid 80s. Everyone moved up a slot so Ray followed me at the end of The Early Show and the first time I chatted to him during the handover from my programme to his was a wonderful moment. I had a chat with him in his studio off air and he was so generous in his comments and a lovely man. Every time I play any version of “For all we know” on my programme I think of Ray. Great guy, top broadcaster and so missed.

  28. Hazel on 6 December 2023

The Billy Cotton Band Show will bring back memories! How about some Uncle Mac Children’s Favourites & Housewives Choice and Workers Playtime too,oh and could Sing Something Simple on Sundays last an hour as half hour is too short. Love all the old programmes I grew up with on the Light Programme as it was back then. Love Serenade Radio & I’m so glad you don’t have adverts like commercial radio.

    • Brian Bunn on 11 December 2023

Excellent ideas Hazel, thoroughly agree 👍

  29. john Harrison on 5 December 2023

up to recent times we had a splendid radio programme from Radio Lancashire hosted by Gerald Jackson called Unforgettable which played a similar genre to yourselves. This programme was axed by the BBC after being a success for nearly 20 years and whilst I understand that thier problems were caused by this wretched government I still agree with your mission statement that they kind of music I like has disappeared when presenter have died or retired no Dewi Griffiths, Ronnie Hilton, Alan Keith, and many more So I was delighted to find you I will recommend you and am now asking for my licence fee to be rescinded, officially because I am over 75, but really because the BBC no longer represent my taste and consequently no longer value for money and when that is approved I will share it with you, because having volunteered in our community for 20 years I know how tigh.t money can be

  30. Ian (Leicestershire) on 5 December 2023

Three consecutive miserable weather Monday afternoons (20th & 27th Nov & 4th Dec) each one brightened up by the wonderful offerings from John Darvall. From Blue Tango on the 20th to All in the World by Kathy Kirby just now (Yes, I know its Tuesday today!) These 3 hour broadcasts are the longest on Serenade each day but John certainly keeps the standard high ! as indeed do all of your presenters !

  31. Nick Hingley on 4 December 2023

Really enjoyed Soft Folkus Sunday 3 December.
Re suggestions for Christmas theme songs I suggest ‘River’ by Joni Mitchell.

    • Roger Williams on 5 December 2023

      Hello Nick,

Lovely to hear from you. Excellent suggestion! I’ll schedule it for Christmas Eve and may even slip it in this week too. Can’t have enough Joni!

      • Nick Hingley on 26 December 2023

        Hello Roger
Great to hear Joni – and first up a couple of weeks ago! – and then again on Christmas Eve. Great selection whilst waiting for Santa to arrive. Enjoyed the seasonal Dance Band Days too (rever miss the programme and often think of dear old Malcolm Laycock.) Happy New Year!

  32. John Abbott on 4 December 2023

We often wake in a cloud this time of year. At two thousand feet above sea level in the Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina USA the heavenly vistas are completed with the heavenly sound of Sernade Radio! Thank you!

  33. Arthur on 3 December 2023

How lovely to hear ‘and the glory of the lord’ on Ed”s show this morning. I am constantly amazed by the diversity of music played on this little gem of a show.

    • Ed Wellman on 3 December 2023

Thank you, Arthur. Glad you enjoyed the Handel chorus, it tootles along with a nice bounce doesn’t it. Shortly will adding some new ‘gems’ (I hope) to the Dawn Chorus music library. Stay warm and extra mugs of coffee all round for dawn choristers today I think!

  34. Sandra Shofner on 3 December 2023

    ✨ Happy Anniversary ✨
May you and your wife be richly blessed with many more wonderful years ahead! Greetings from Fort Lauderdale, Florida 🌴☀️

    • Stuart Linnell on 3 December 2023

Sandra, how lovely of you to send your message for my wife and I. Good of you to get in touch, I hope all is well in Fort Lauderdale, and that you enjoy listening to Serenade Radio.

  35. Alan Jowett on 2 December 2023

There are so many genres catered for on Serenade Radio. Perhaps you might occasionally feature selections by brass bands as many Radio 2 listeners are still missing programmes like Listen to the Band. I enjoy tracks by big bands that feature excellent brass players but as Christmas approaches you might play some festive music by say a Salvation Army band or a similar line-up.

    • John Harrison J&J on 5 December 2023

are you the Alan Jowett whose name appeared on Unforgettable

  36. Martyn Bassey on 2 December 2023

Brilliant entertainment throughout the early hours of Saturday. Many thanks to Sean Usher, Ed Wellman, and Johnny McAtasney. 👍😊

    • Johnny Mac on 2 December 2023

Thank you again, Martyn. Glad to have you tuning in.

  37. Anthony Parkin on 2 December 2023

Why now. My expensive internet radio won’t access internet radio. It could but the manufacturer’s partner has started asking for a monthly subscription fee.

And without you cannot access any internet radio. So the radio is now a doorstop.

Now to decide if I pay up. Look at smart speakers or some other alternative. Simplistic. It seems I can buy two and set them up so one plays the left sounds and the other the right. Creating stereo.

Then other option seems to be you buy one and with the right cable relay the sound through PC speakers. A hi-fi.

Ironically I think that I can connect a smart speaker to this obsolete radio and play it through its speakers.

    I hope I am back soon…missing you.

(My phone is ready to die too)

    • Anthony Parkin on 2 December 2023

Temporary reprieve. Just to get my hopes up. Why did I try the radio 24 hours later. Everything is working again. Even limited use would work for me if some features are withdrawn. Happy for now.

  38. Andy Grahamme on 2 December 2023

Stuart Linnell…Saturdays at noon. Such a smashing programme. The music is always a delight and Stuart has a lovely style of presentation. Serenade Radio is just an absolute joy!

    • Stuart Linnell on 3 December 2023

Andy, thank you so much for your kind words about the weekend show, and thank you for listening.

  39. Lorraine Bullock on 2 December 2023

I listen to Jeff Owen every Saturday morning from Spain and love his humour. I just want to wish him well again soon from his laryngitis. Look forward to having you back next week, Jeff x

  40. Karen on 1 December 2023

Love the comment about Christmas lists Dick. My husband only says ‘ surprise me l’ when i ask . But he apparently needs me to tell him what i want !!

  41. David Bownes on 29 November 2023

Dick Fisher just played “The show is Over” and he couldn’t find who wrote it , it was Petula Clark , one of the many songs she wrote

    • Dick Fisher on 29 November 2023

Thank you David. Quite often the internet will suggest that a performer actually wrote a song they’re associated with, so I treat such info carefully! I wasn’t aware of Pet’s songwriting skills, but your comments have inspired me to do some more reading about her career.

      • David Bownes on 29 November 2023

She wrote or co-wrote over 75 songs , some were by herself , some with others such as Tony Hatch. A lot were in French, she also put English lyrics to French and German songs and vice verse, a very talented lady and a lovely person
Really enjoy your show and all the information surrounding the songs and singers that I never knew

  42. Nick Hingley on 27 November 2023

I have just listened to the repeat of Dance Band Days and can confirm that The Seekers did indeed record ‘Open Up Them Pearly Gates’. It is on either the B side of ‘I’ll Never Find Another You’ or ‘Morningtown Ride’ (I rather think the former) though I would have to dig out my box of 45s to confirm which. Actually, it’s not surprising that The Seekers should have recorded it as they started out as a gospel-cum-folk style group – the turning point in their popularity being their involvement with Tom Springfield.

    • Alan Jowett on 2 December 2023

One reason that The Seekers put traditional folk songs such as Open Up Them Pearly Gates on their B sides was that by lifting the arrangement under their own names they earned royalties which would be the same as for the the composer of the A side.

  43. Alexander Gleason on 27 November 2023

To Adrian Jackson – I expect many have mentioned it, by now. Alan Perry is of course a pseudonym for the great Ernest Tomlinson- founder of the Light music Society and composer of the classic ‘Little Serenade’ plus over 200 other lovely pieces of light music, under his own and other nom-de-plumes

  44. Angus on 27 November 2023

Listening from the US southwestern desert and this is the best internet radio ever. I especially loved Soft Folkus today. Thanks and my best to everyone that makes this listening experience possible.

    • Roger Williams on 27 November 2023

Angus, thank you for your kind comments, which are much appreciated – I enjoy putting Soft Folkus together with a mix of older material and the occasional newer release. Feel free to suggest artists that you think might suit the show. Roger W

  45. Ian Hall on 26 November 2023

Another great Soft Folkus… Roger Williams has really captured the mood for a relaxing Sunday evening. I know nothing about the folk scene but I do enjoy this show immensely. Thanks.

    • Roger Williams on 27 November 2023

Ian, that is such a lovely comment! You may find this strange but I have an immense amount of difficulty defining what folk music is. I’m very much guided by my own ears and a fair bit of the show goes beyond what many would count as folk. I do try and create a certain mood on a Sunday night and I’m sure I don’t always get it right. Comments like yours meanso much, especially as I sometimes play music that no-one else will. Roger

  46. Brian Reynolds on 26 November 2023

Being old enough to remember the ‘Golden Age of Light Music! on radio and the regular live broadcasts by light orchestras and ensembles, I was bound to regard Adrian Jackson’s series “Evergreen” as essential listening.
On Friday, he played us a piece by Alan Perry (perhaps an unfamiliar name to many listeners) Well, Adrian might be interested to know that “Alan Perry” was the pseudonym for one of light music’s “legends” – Ernest Tomlinson!

Ernest once told me that he used the name on pieces which (he felt) fell below his usual standard! Actually I thought that some of them were amongst his best! I mentioned to him a particular favourite “Mississippi Melody”. He responded “Oh – that was easy!”. I responded “for you, maybe- but most people would not know where to start!”
    Give it a try-Adrian!

  47. David Purll on 26 November 2023

Roger, if you could include it sometime in the next few editions, how about ” That’ll be Christmas ” by Thea Gilmore, thank you …

    • Roger Williams on 27 November 2023

Hi David, that sounds like a great suggestion, thank you. I’ll be doing Soft Folkus on Christmas Eve and will probably introduce seasonal songs the week before as well. Hope you’re well, don’t overdo it eh?

  48. Sandi on 25 November 2023

Thank you for playing Perry Como (‘Papa Loves Mambo’)! Happily listening in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (U.S.A.). Thank you very much for such great programming. Very best wishes to you for a safe, healthy, and wonderful holiday season.

    • Johnny Mac on 25 November 2023

Thank you, Sandi, for listening to our night-time programmes and best wishes from this side of the pond.

  49. Mark Lees on 22 November 2023

    Hi Guys,
Just had to send you a message to say how much i love being tuned into Serenade Radio 24/7! I have always been a massive fan of Easy Listening Music and a friend pointed me in the direction of your amazing station, the dial has not moved since then on my radio! You are playing my kinda music all day so enjoy all your shows right across the easy listening genre i am hearing music and songs that you will never hear on any other station who needs the BBC when we have Serenade Radio! Back to the great days of Radio 2 i always tuned into the likes of Benny Green, David Jacobs, Alan Dell, Family Favourites, Friday Night Is Music Night remember them, and my all time favourite presenter the late great Desmond Carrington with his “All Time Music Greats” – So to now have you on my Radio every day is just sheer bliss nothing like this on the Air Waves anymore so a BIG BIG Thank you to Serenade Radio and all your amazing presenters you are doing a stellar job and i have passed the word around all my friends to recommend your brilliant station. I smile because everyday it’s just like listening to my record collection on the Radio! Keep up the good work i am staying with you all the way bringing so much listening pleasure to us all its most definitely “Our Kind Of Music” – Mark Lees – Wallasey – Wirral.

    • Steve in Worcs. on 23 November 2023

      Hello Mark,

A fellow radio fan here, and you’ve mentioned the names of Titans there that I loved listening to😎 Did you catch the Radio Heroes series of 6 programmes in the Summer, presented by Peter Tomlinson? I missed two of them, and unfortunately, the station licence doesn’t allow for a ‘catch-up feature’ (as I understand it), so I would love to hear a repeat! There is talk of a second series. What a station this is! 😎

      • Andy Marriott on 23 November 2023

There will be a Radio Heroes Christmas Special on Christmas day at 5pm. It will feature all of the ‘heroes’ of series one in festive mood.
Series one will be repeated on Thursday evenings at 9.30 beginning on January 4th.
Series two is planned for later in 2024.

        • Steve in Worcs. on 25 November 2023

Wonderful news, many thanks for your reply, Andy.

  50. Anne W on 21 November 2023

I love the album of the week ❤️ what a brilliant idea 💡 bravo 👏🏻

  51. Tom Ashmore on 20 November 2023

Kathy Kirby is Catherine and her sister must be Kathleen. Hope that sorts it

  52. Karen on 19 November 2023

What a great soft folkus tonight. Duncan Brown, Janis Ian, Fairport Convention, Nineberrow to name but a few and to cap it all one of my favourite songs Persuasion by Richard and Teddy Thompson. Thank you Roger. Fabulous
show. By the way…. India Electric Co. have a new single out called After the Flood… it’s very good.. 😉

    • Roger Williams on 22 November 2023

Thanks Karen, your support means a lot. It still feels like a challenge keeping the show fresh each week. But there again I’m still building up the Soft Folkus library. More suggestions welcome!

  53. Steve in Worcs. on 18 November 2023

Another superb Dance Band Days show, Roger, for which thanks so much again (and The Boss of course!)

    Simon up next….😎

    • Roger Williams on 22 November 2023

Thank you Steve. I can’t stress enough that Dance Band Days is very much a team effort. I provide the voice but John Wright is the expert behind the scenes – and that man Marriot has something to do with it too!

      • Steve in Worcs. on 25 November 2023

Hello Roger, yes perfectly understood, I usually include ‘anyone associated with the programme’ but I seem to have been remiss on this occasion. Apologies to anyone I may have missed.

  54. Karen on 18 November 2023

What do you do when your mind is racing and sleep is eluding you? … you stay awake and listen to Serenade Radio, that’s what you do. Thank you Dick Fisher, Simon Maclean, Sean Usher and now Johnny Mac. It’s been brilliant so far … And the night would be very long without you .

    • Johnny Mac on 18 November 2023

Hi Karen. A Little Night Music would be very lonely without your good self! Thank you for tuning in to me and my meanderings!

    • Martyn Bassey on 18 November 2023

Great comment. I always look forward to listening to all these fab shows on Saturday morning. Thanks Johnny for playing Human Jungle by John Barry. I have the series on DVD! 😃

      • Johnny Mac on 18 November 2023

Good ol Herbert Lom. More than just Dreyfuss. Many thanks again for your support, Martyn. Until next Saturday at 3am – the best time of the week!

  55. Martyn Bassey on 17 November 2023

Thanks to John Darvall for a great show today and three of the best from Edna Savage. What a fabulous singer she was.

  56. Carole Jenks on 17 November 2023

Do you broadcast from a studio or from your homes – love it all the way from Australia

    • Andy Marriott on 17 November 2023

      Hi Carole,
We all present our programmes from the comfort of our homes, in some cases sat up in bed!
Being funded by donations we could never afford premises and all that posh studio equipment.
I hope you don’t feel that SR sounds in anyway amateurish as a result of the tight budget…
      All the best,
      AM.

      • Edgar on 18 November 2023

The DJs refer to going in the music library. Where is that, then? From The States.

        • Serenade Radio on 24 November 2023

Like most things nowadays its an online/digital database and it is vast. The presenters do have to ‘go into it’ to look through all the music we have available.

      • Ohio Paul on 18 December 2023

Just occurred to me, Andy, the USA and England or two countries sharing a common Songbook. God Bless, Merry Christmas.

  57. Mary Cobb on 16 November 2023

I love your station— I’m listening all the way from sunny California USA.Im 60 and I love crooners, Big Band and swing music. Keep playing the music of our lives.
    Mary Cobb—Elk Grove, CA

  58. Barbara Heathcote on 14 November 2023

Hi Andy, listening to Bobby Darin ‘Somewhere’. took me back to being a teenager and madly in love with PJ Proby as he sang it as well. I had his EP with Hold Me, even though no record player so had to take round to friends houses. I also loved Wayne Newton, I was a strange child 🤣

  59. Jeff on 14 November 2023

David Yarnall’s whimsical, laid back presentation and wonderfully varied choice of music is a daily treat. You won’t find a better afternoon show on UK radio…

    • Andy G on 14 November 2023

      I agree. Smashing programme!

      • David Yarnall on 14 November 2023

Fabulous Kevin Taylor Show last night. What a thrill to have met and spoken to the wonderful Jo Stafford. Many thanks Kevin 👍🙂

  61. Nicky Crouch on 11 November 2023

Having just returned home from playing the oboe in two Armistice Day ceremonies here in France, I am really enjoying the British “remembrance” music with Vera Lynn, Nimrod, I vow to thee my country etc.
    Very emotional.

    • Martyn Bassey on 11 November 2023

Very true. Stuart Linnell gave a lovely tribute I thought . Moonlight Serenade gets me every time.

      • Anthony Parkin on 11 November 2023

Lately. I have taken to an Armistice ceremony that is very low key. But holds a lot of meaning and history.

I drawn to it and feel a connection to my Mum and Dad. It is performed close to where the UK railways were said to have begun. And George Stephenson and Timothy Hackworth lived.

Afterwards we had coffee and a chat. And I was surprised to be invited to have a whisky and toast Absent Friends.

I am looking forward to hearing all of today’s programmes I have missed overnight and I am listening to this evening’s programmes too.

        • Martyn Bassey on 11 November 2023

Sounds like a very enjoyable day. Hope you manage to listen to the programmes you missed earlier. I’m listening to Kevin Taylor now and Steve James later on 😊

  62. Martyn Bassey on 11 November 2023

Wonderful entertainment throughout the early hours this Saturday morning. Many thanks to Sean Usher, Johnny Mac, and Ed Wellman.

    • Johnny Mac on 11 November 2023

Thank you, Martyn. You’re a stalwart of the wee small hours!!

      • Martyn Bassey on 11 November 2023

To hear Sam Cooke singing A Change Is Gonna Come keeps me going! Thanks for playing that Johnny. Absolute classic. 👍😊

  63. Barbara Heathcote on 10 November 2023

Hi Andy thank you for playing Vic Damone again. I did close my eyes and remember how lucky I was to see him 4 times. Not sure if this would be too long for the 8.30 nonsense slot but the Bob Newhart introducing Tobacco monologue is very funny.

    • Karen on 10 November 2023

I have that Bob Newhart track on an lp Barbara… My dad used to love it. And i found the lp recently in a charity shop and so have been reminded how funny it is.

      • Andy Marriott on 17 November 2023

I have played it in the past, and as you say it is rather long.
I’ll dig it out again soon.
        AM

  64. Arthur on 8 November 2023

What a lovely album of the week this week. Roger Whittaker was such a wonderful singer . Thank you. So lovely in fact i have bought a copy.

  65. Tom Ashmore on 6 November 2023

Vic Groves playing my favourite vocalist Sarah Vaughan plus my favourite country singer Bobby Bare made a very enjoyable Sunday afternoon. Peggy Ann Ellis had Vic playing the rare ones. Great programme.

    • Vic Groves on 6 November 2023

Thank you Tom. Very kind of you. Just been reading “Queen Of Bebop” biography of Sarah Vayghan. Pleased you like the country track.

  66. Anne Wade on 5 November 2023

Remember remember the fifth of November gunpowder treason and plot😳 Guy and the bonfire 🔥
Used to love ❤️those far away days when things were soooo carefree 😎

  67. David on 4 November 2023

Thank you for your lovely programme today and for playing the much missed Harry ,Nilsson today. Is it just me or is there a melody similarity between “I ‘m always chasing rainbows” and “just loving you” by Anita Harris….??

  68. David Beaver on 3 November 2023

I have loved the Andy Marriott’s Halloween Party this week. A truly entertaining show that was incredibly well compiled with some really well researched clips of plays and readings mixed with appropriate and varied music. It should be an annual broadcast and I highly recommend it as the perfect Halloween entertainment.

    Thanks for broadcasting this.

  69. Kate on 3 November 2023

John Darvall, what a lovely, soothing voice you have!

  70. Peter on 2 November 2023

You do play excellent Music, never hear it anywhere else on the radio. A real Light and Easy station. I listen when on my PC as I have a Hi Fi amp connected to it with proper floor standing hi fi speakers, so it sounds really good.

  71. Cindy Kent on 2 November 2023

Doing very boring housework and listening to the lovely Dick Fisher is really helping! Thanks for the music and the chat

  72. Wendy on 2 November 2023

Wow. Jonathan and Darlene Edwards… Fabulous. But are we sure its Jo Stafford and not my mother? I am sure i grew up hearing that beautiful singing voice 😂

  73. Anne Wade on 31 October 2023

I remember when the Brits used to celebrate 🎉 penny for the guy and bonfire 🔥 night 🎃😎
And mischievous night😀😃 pushing the guy in the pram🤡

  74. Karen on 31 October 2023

Thoroughly enjoying tonight’s Halloween show with Andy. The combination of stories and music we dont often hear along with old favourites is very entertaining… let’s hope there are no nightmares from the stories😉

  75. Dave on 30 October 2023

I enjoy many of the programmes and presenters that are broadcast on Serenade Radio. In particular, however, a real favourite is that of the Andy Marriott Programme. Whilst I enjoy his whole show I do look forward to the 8.30 slot. Twaddle etc. However I haven’t heard, at least, for some time the wonderful recording of Joyce Grenfell as a school teacher with all that that entailed, I should be very grateful to hear this once again. It really does bring a smile to my face.

  76. Peter Tomlinson on 30 October 2023

I have just been reading the many tributes to my great friend and erstwhile radio colleague Brain Savin. For those of you who didn’t catch my programme yesterday I said that we paid our final respects to Brian on Thursday afternoon in a packed crematorium in Solihull outside Birmingham. Brian was a man of eclectic musical tastes, he especially loved the music from the great American Popular Songbook which this radio station keeps very much alive: a radio station Brian helped to bring into being nearly 10 years ago. We entered the auditorium to the sounds of “Soave sia il vento” from Cosi Fan Tutte and left to the strains of the Beach Boys and “God Only Knows”. I ended my show with Ella and “East of The Sun, and West of The Moon” One of his favourite artists singing one of his favourite songs. He is now at peace. Thank you Brian.

  77. Martyn Bassey on 29 October 2023

Fabulous music on the Dawn Chorus with Ed Wellman this morning. Also the Steve James programmes this weekend were hugely enjoyable. Great to hear a Françoise Hardy song on the radio too. Many thanks to you both 🙂

  78. Anne Wade on 29 October 2023

I was listing to Stuart Saturday show this evening as I always do👏🏻 and in the middle SR started playing light music😳 Hope everything is well with Stuart🙏🏻 love his show 😎

    • Anthony Parkin on 29 October 2023

      Anne,
Its all to do with the clocks going back the hour. The first transmission at midday is three hours but the repeat would need to be four hours long so an hour of music is inserted.

Then when its possible to resume and the times match up the programme starts again.
I kept falling asleep earlier in the day so I have been listening overnight but I often do. 😊

      • Karen on 29 October 2023

Thank you for that explanation Anthony. I was intrigued to know what would happen and tried to stay awake as i am often awake in the night… But typically on this occasion fell asleep.!

  79. Clifford Chambers on 28 October 2023

Dear Serenade Radio Team, We listen to the station most of the day finding it ideal being free from news, weather reports and painful adverts, however not advert free completely when connecting with the smart speaker, most of the time the first thing we endure is an advert for another radio station and then two adverts to follow. I realise that for the rest of the day there are no more unless it is for some reason disconnected and when it comes back on again the aforementioned are included for the first few minutes. Is this normal please? I usually mute the sound until i know they are finished. I would appreciate your feedback on this matter but other than that, Serenade Radio is the best thing since sliced bread (so long as it’s wholemeal!!!)

    • Serenade Radio on 28 October 2023

Hi Clifford sorry to hear you are having problems with your Smart speaker. If you vist our ‘Tuning In’ page and look at the FAQ the first question is how do I bypass Tune-in adverts on my smart speaker. That should solve the issue. If you are still having problems please drop us a line via the contact form and we will try to help you further.

      • Clifford Chambers on 30 October 2023

Hi Team, Thank you for your very swift reply advising to visit your ‘tuning in’ page which I did and HURRAR! SUCCESS! No further adverts. Thank you very much indeed.

  80. Sue on 28 October 2023

    Great programme Stuart

    • Stuart Linnell on 4 November 2023

Thank you Sue. Just catching up with my messages. So kind of you to get in touch.

  81. Brian Reynolds on 27 October 2023

As someone with a lifetime passion for light music, I am enjoying Adrian Jackson’s “Evergreen” every Friday at 9.00pm. Last week he played a track from Sydney Thompson’s Old Time orchestra, which broadcast for many years. Adrian might be interested to know that, whilst Thompson eloquently presented his radio programmes and organised his orchestra, he did not actually conduct his musicians- as he was a championship dancer – but not a musician. That task fell to Louis Voss for many years and subsequently to Leon Young and Ronald Hanmer – all familiar names to radio listeners of the period. For some reason this fact was rarely mentioned, either on air, or in the Radio Times. I once said to a now deceased producer that someone as distinguished as Louis Voss must have been irked by this – but I was told “he was too much of a gentlemen to complain!”
I must say that, having met many conductors of the era, the light music profession was abound with ‘gentlemen’ !

Keep up the good work Adrian!

    • Adrian Jackson on 28 October 2023

Thank you for your kind comments Brian and for the interesting information about Sydney Thompson, I’ll be sure to include this in a future programme. Thanks for listening to Evergreen.

  82. Barbara Heathcote on 26 October 2023

Hi Andy, great programme tonight as always, thank you for for Vic Damone ❤️. John Gary and Arthur Prysock are new to me. Don’t know where you find them. David Whitfield was a regular on the radio growing up and mum’s favourite singer.

    • Andy Marriott on 29 October 2023

Hi Barbara, Thanks for your kind words. I’m glad that you are enjoying discovering “new” singers with us on SR.
Plus remembering good times with your Mum. That’s what Serenade Radio is all about. All the best.

  83. Martyn Bassey on 26 October 2023

Hi Andy. You played Cheek To Cheek by The Pasadena Roof Orchestra today. I believe the vocalist is John “Pazz” Parry. Hope this is of help to you.

    • Andy Marriott on 29 October 2023

Thanks for the info Martyn, I shall try to remember that for next time. What are the chances? 🙂

  84. Bob Chapman on 26 October 2023

    Dick Fisher
The song you played came forth and. has lasted but what won has it lasted as long. Love your show always a great programme

    • Dick Fisher on 27 October 2023

Hi Bob…you’re referring to the San Remo Festival entry I think. All I have to do is remember the year or the song and I should be able to track down the winner!

  85. Edgar on 25 October 2023

Great music but where is the DJ?

    • Brian Reynolds on 26 October 2023

Edgar -Music While You Work never had a DJ. It was a twice-daily programme of uninterrupted dance or light music which ran for 27 years without a break – and was subsequently revived several times There were two daily editions – usually broadcast ‘live’. What you were listening to wasn’t a CD – it was a half-hour broadcast from the Maida Vale studios given by one of hundreds of musical combinations utilised over the years. Glad you liked it!

  86. Arthur on 25 October 2023

Today’s music while you work wih the Don Lusher big band is wonderful. Definitely up there as one of my favourites.
