John Yarnall (Thursday): John you just played the theme tune from Callan TV series. Did you know that Edward Woodward (the main actor and a fine singer) released a version of this called ‘A Man Alone’, complete with lyrics? It’s worth listening to. Best wishes.

    • Simon McLean on 19 March 2026

That whole Edward Woodward album is one of my favourites, Callan theme included – it also includes an early Elton John song not recorded anywhere else, as I recall, ‘The Tide Will Turn For Rebecca’.

    • David Yarnall on 24 March 2026

Did you mean me Armando as in David Yarnall? Even I get my name wrong sometimes. It’s an age thing you know!! 😂

      • Armando Loni on 24 March 2026

Yes, David. I got mixed up with John Darvall…. I was referring to your prog 😂

  2. Dave Cole on 19 March 2026

Had to leave another comment – just hearing those velvet tones of the greatly missed Jim Reeves! Nice!

  3. Dave Cole on 19 March 2026

I nearly choked on my cuppa just now with Andy Marriot’s quip about June busting out all over!
    Great show!

  4. Suzy on 18 March 2026

I love the BBC-accent continuity announcer. Who is he? A voice from back when we all ‘ad to speak proper-like 😉

    • Paul Ruddock on 18 March 2026

      Hi Suzy
Those are the dulcet tones of Mr Raymond Birch who seems to be proving rather popular with listeners.
His duty days are most Mondays and Fridays, so do stay tuned!

  5. Barbara Heathcote on 15 March 2026

Thank you Vic for Roger Miller. Enjoyed Dave King as well. He was a regular on our tv screens back in the day.

    • Vic Groves on 15 March 2026

You are very welcome Barbara! Keep listening.

  6. Barry Williams on 15 March 2026

What a treat this morning with Jane Markham to hear Ken Dodd, The Batchelors, Acker Bilk and Dean Martin all in the space of twenty minutes. What a parade of talent. Many thanks Jane and all at Serenade, no other station comes close!

  7. David Thackray on 15 March 2026

Nana Mouskouri  appeared on the likes of Morecambe & Wise during the 70s and it was usually my cue to get up and make a cup of tea but Mark Steyn on this evening’s On the Town played Nana performing a Michel Legrand song and quite simply, I think it’s the most beautiful French I’ve ever heard sung! It was utterly gorgeous. None of the trills and over-egged vibrato that sometimes occurs elsewhere. I must explore further. Two dynamite Sinatra recordings also featured in Second Time Around and the sensationally-arranged Love Is the Tender Trap. How big would Sinatra have been without the genius of Nelson Riddle? So good also to hear the Sinatra-inflected Steve Lawrence once more!

  8. Buzz Tietjen on 15 March 2026

Another lovely Steve James show-thank you🎼🐝

  9. Adrian H on 14 March 2026

Who was the gloriously rich and nostalgic continuity announcer overnight in the early hours of Saturday – my mind drifted off to a Sunday roast dinner from yesteryear.

    • Barbara Heathcote on 14 March 2026

It was Johnny Mac. With the rich Irish brogue

      • Paul Ruddock on 14 March 2026

        Hi Adrian and Barbara

The gloriously rich tones which were heard throughout Friday and overnight into Saturday morning are those of Raymond Birch.

Andy hopes he’ll be able to do more continuity for us as time goes on. The real unhurried class of ‘radio like it used to be’.

Thanks for listening and stay tuned!

        • Brian Reynolds on 15 March 2026

Perhaps ITV ‘s continuity announcer could take a lesson from this gentleman and stop saying “Next ‘ere- the news!”

  10. Barbara Heathcote on 14 March 2026

Loving Jeff’s programme this morning. Gave me a good laugh just mentioning storm names. What fun the media could have with storm Keir. I can just picture a storm cloud with his face blowing across the ocean and disappearing. 🤣

  11. Nancy on 14 March 2026

A Little Night Music was a feast of Oscar winning songs! My favorite part was Judy Garland’s lovely ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ played after Liza Minelli’s rollicking ‘New York New York’. More please!

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 14 March 2026

Thank you, Nancy. Everyone’s a winner this Oscars’ weekend, and I saw an interview with Liza Minnelli this week and she looks fabulous at 80!

Next week’s artist of the week is jazz legend Johnny Hartman.

  12. Barbara Heathcote on 13 March 2026

Hi Paul. Enjoyed another night of swing music, especially Artie Shaw Carioca. More please. Perhaps Benny Goodman or both Dorsey Brothers. Get the feet tapping.

    • Paul Ruddock - Swing Time on 13 March 2026

Thank you Barbara, glad you enjoyed and it got those feet tapping; how about the budgie?!

Somewhere, I have some sides of Tommy and Jimmy playing as The Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, I’ll dig out a few good ones for future shows, so stay tuned!

As ever, your support is greatly appreciated.

      Best wishes

      Paul

      • Barbara Heathcote on 14 March 2026

Thank you Paul. Looking forward to next weeks programme. Budgie was in her usual place on my head but I don’t want her bopping too much she’ll give me a headache. 🤣

  13. Dave in London on 13 March 2026

One of the delights of listening to Sonia is the recounting of her time working with Brian Matthew’s ‘Round Midnight’. After many years I’ve still got the signature tune playing in my head but have not been able to identify which version it is. I’m assuming it’s Georgie Auld on sax, but the Round Midnight track found online on his album ‘Manhattan With Strings’ doesn’t match this listener’s memory of it. Have I misremembered it?

Happy weekend to Sonia and all.

    • Sonia Beldom on 13 March 2026

Hi Dave. Great to get your message and so glad you’re enjoying Serenade. I’ll investigate the signature tune we used on Round Midnight and get back to you. Keep listening and enjoying the music. Sonia

      • Simon McLean on 14 March 2026

I don’t know if this helps friend of mine who’s done some digging on this subject says the version by Henry Mancini and Doc Severinsen from the ‘Brass, Ivory And Strings’ album was used, at least in 1978 – I don’t know if it’s the one you remember though, as I can’t hear a sax!

        • Dave in London on 14 March 2026

Crikey that Mancini/Severinson interpretation is good, and (I think) new to these ears. I’d happily settle for that one even though it doesn’t ring the memory bell. Likewise the track on “Mancini ’67” which does have a sax break. I guess they used more than one version of RM over the long life of the programme. But I’m really grateful to you Sonia and now Simon for helping out. Radio can be such fun, thanks to the people who love it and want to share the experience.

    • Nick Hingley on 15 March 2026

I listened to ‘Round Midnight’ with Brian Matthew from when it first started (I think) in 1978. Though well in Radio One target territory, I had moved on pop radio. I wasn’t alone amongst my peers, and we often discussed what we had heard on the show. I liked the guest interviews, reviews and feature of a particular live artist across the week. Quality radio. (And sorely missed.)

I seem to recall that the theme tune was an instrumental take on Cat Stevens’ ‘Matthew & Son’.

      • Simon McLean on 15 March 2026

Yes, Matthew And Son was the superb version by Apollo 100 (must play them on Music Box one of these days!)

    • Sonia Beldom on 16 March 2026

I’ve checked with my colleagues at radio 2 and the editor of Round Midnight confirms that it was a Henry Mancini recording of Round Midnight that was often used as the final piece. We didn’t have a signature tune to introduce the show as we always went LIVE after the continuity announcement after the news. Happy days.

      • Dave in London on 16 March 2026

Ah, so good of you to ask your colleagues Sonia. It’s fab that you’ve still got the lines open as I think they say in broadcasting. All the best to you, and to them.

  14. Barbara Heathcote on 12 March 2026

Hi Jane I was only mentioning Andy Williams the Impossible Dream this morning and you’ve just played it. Great. I loved his show every Saturday night with the Osmonds. I was going out with my future husband at the time but Saturday nights were Andy’s. 😄. Still got married. But no such thing as record, plus 1 etc. so if you missed it you missed forever so what do you do.

  15. Barbara Heathcote on 9 March 2026

Listening to the quiet hour with Jane I Talk to the Trees from Paint your Wagon was played. It was sung by Clint Eastwood in the film and Lee Marvin sang Wandrin’ Star. Both not known for their singing but actually were quite good. Perhaps one or both of them could be played please.

  16. David Purll on 9 March 2026

Soft Folkus is an oasis of calm to start the week; a fine programme with a balance between old favourites like Paxton, Lightfoot etc and more contemporary gems, and surely deserves a repeat hearing during the week. Other fine programmes are given a repeat so could the opportunity be extended to Soft Folkus?

    • Roger Williams on 10 March 2026

      Hello David

Thank you for your lovely comments which are very much appreciated. I do try to create a relaxed, mellow show and it’s great if you feel I’m getting it right.

I’ve often been appreciative of your musical suggestions for the show too. Thank you for being part of Serenade’s Soft Folkus Group!

      Roger W

  17. Malcolm Turner on 9 March 2026

I love serenade radio. I put it on as often as I can. It connects me with my past and cheers my heart. It is just good old time radio with no annoying adverts.
Thank you and keep up the good work

  18. Randall Riley on 9 March 2026

Thanks for the lovely shout-out after playing the marvelous Rita Reys this morning Sonia: this fan in Austin, Texas was right here listening! Also, if you like Rita, you might also like her friend, Donna Hightower, especially Donna’s “I’m in Love with Love” album from 1974 with outstanding versions of “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You,” and “Good Bye.” Appreciate all the beautiful music you play every day.

    • Sonia Beldom on 13 March 2026

Hi Randall. Yes, Rita’s a firm favourite and I’ll have a look out for your other favourites. So great of you to write in. All the best to you and Austin, Texas. Sonia

  19. Dave Tee on 8 March 2026

    Hi Roger

Another gem you have introduced us to, Mike Reinstein, more please!

    • Roger Williams on 9 March 2026

Hello Dave, I think Mike Reinstein is a considerable talent who should be much better known. He writes so many good songs, beautifully constructed and delivered. It’s always encouraging to know that you like what he does too! Thank you for listening.

      Roger

  20. Nick Hingley on 8 March 2026

    Roger Williams:

Can’t have too much Gordon Lightfoot. Especially ‘Carefree Highway’. 1970s: what a decade for singer-songwriters.

Read Petroc Trelawny’s book last year. Fabulous read. (I’m missing Petroc at breakfast-time.)

I had a connection with the coal mining industry. There was always Geordie in a pit.

    • Roger Williams on 9 March 2026

      Nick

Gordon Lightfoot is wonderful isn’t he? I’ll carry on playing him most weeks.

Petroc’s book is SO well written and researched isn’t it? I’d forgotten you were from Geordie land. We’ll be up in Whitley Bay in a few weeks time. Looking out from my window in Notts I can make out through this morning’s mist the restored Headstocks of the former Bestwood Colliery.

      Thank you for listening.

      Roger W

      • Nick Hingley on 19 March 2026

        Hi Roger

Nice to know there are some preserved headstocks about in Nottinghamshire. No, not a Geordie, I’m a Black Country chap with a very Black Country name. The very numerous Black Country mines are long gone – the coal was close to the surface and so most was worked out 100 years ago – and as a result some locals went in search of mining jobs elsewhere. I know some ended up in Cornwall. In the old days of telephone directories, if in a mining area, out of curiosity, I would look up my surname to see how many were listed.

However, there was a saying that in a (coal) pit you’d always find a Geordie and I found it to be true!

It’s forgotten how, in the industrial revolution, Cornwall was once a major centre of innovation.

  21. David Pearson on 8 March 2026

Great show from Steve James Sat nights. So refreshing to hear a 60s show with some seldom heard tracks by groups/artistes who really deserve their place in the sun. Wonderful to hear the Critters and also post-Terry Twinkle. Love it!

    • Steve James on 11 March 2026

Thank you David, I’m so pleased you enjoy the programme. It’s lovely to be able to bring all these esoteric delights to the ears of late night listeners. I love researching the background information on the records I play and it’s often a voyage of musical discovery for me too!

  22. Barbara Heathcote on 8 March 2026

I just heard Steve say Shirley Abicair. I haven’t heard her name for years. I must be really old and I’ve another birthday soon. 😔. Can we have Ed on prescription please. He has such a lovely voice to wake up to.

  23. David Thackray on 8 March 2026

That was a belter of an opener from Mark Steyn’s On the Town. I suspected It Must Be Him was not Shirley Bassey but couldn’t name the vocalist. Vikki Carr can ‘rap’ as not every singer can. Such a terrific record.  Johnny Mathis’  99 Miles From L.A. was sublime, too. Gene Page is a name I first heard arranging Tell Me When the Whistle Blows from Elton John’s Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy album. And Ed Sullivan stills sounds so awkward, wooden and ill-at-ease in every clip I hear of him. How was he so influential?

    • Mark Steyn on 14 March 2026

Thank you, David. Those Vikki Carr and Johnny Mathis tracks are hard to beat – although I’m not sure it helps the song: I’ve known maybe half-a-dozen singers minded to record “99 Miles from LA” and then they heard the Mathis version and thought, “Nah, maybe not. Can’t beat that.” As for Ed Sullivan’s woodenness, I think it helps if you get in on the ground floor of a new medium, as he did with TV. On the other hand, it didn’t work for me on OnlyFans…

  24. Paul "Ohio" on 7 March 2026

The brilliance of Mark on full display

  25. Martyn Bassey on 7 March 2026

Many thanks to Sean Usher for his show this morning. Especially enjoyed hearing Gina by Johnny Mathis, and The Rain, The Park by The Cowsills.
Also thanks to Johnny Mac. Loved the three songs by Vic Damone, and what a lovely surprise to hear the beautiful voice of Sandy Denny. Fantastic!!
Many thanks to you both once again 👍👍

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 7 March 2026

Thank you, Martyn. Vic is too often overlooked in the crooners’ hall of fame. And, I couldn’t resist some Fairport Convention!

      • Barbara Heathcote on 7 March 2026

I agree Johnny. When Vic passed away I approached several tv stations like Sky Arts to do a tribute programme like they did for other artists. But all I got was no plans but keep trying. I did but no luck. I did make a couple more attempts but to this day there hasn’t been any recognition of his career only a brief obituary in the newspapers. But through a radio station like Serenade he’ll not be forgotten.

  26. Barry Birch on 7 March 2026

    Hi Paul

Another super SwingTime show again yesterday. You make the hour go by so fast. What a great addition to the Serenade Radio line-up. Where else would we get to hear the Mills Blue Rhythm Band, the Claude Hopkins Orchestra, Andy Kirk & his 12 clouds of Joy, Jan Savitt & his vocalist Bon-Bon, Chick Webb and his Drums, The Will Bradley – Ray McKinley Orchestra and Jimmie Grier all in one place. It takes me back to my early years listening to the radio.
I am now looking forward to listening each week at noon hour here in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, with the hope that you’ll have a long running show.

Thanks also for your work with Roger Williams on The Dance Band Days show.

    Barry Birch

    • Paul Ruddock - Swing Time on 8 March 2026

      Hello Barry

Thank you so much getting in touch and the compliments too, it’s very kind of you and I’m very humbled.

Stay tuned from beautiful Winnipeg each week and I’ll do my best to keep digging out the more obscure bits of swinging old shellac for, hopefully, your listening pleasure!

Working with Roger on Dance Band Days each week is such a joy and I’ve learnt so much from him.

      Sending best wishes

      Paul

  27. Barbara Heathcote on 7 March 2026

Thank you Johnny M. Yes I was listening from the beginning thank you so much. Pity the theme tune to an Affair to Remember missed out on an Academy Award. Loved your 3 choices. I saw Vic 4 times in concert and met him along with Alan Dell and David Jacobs at the stage door. I still go to concert when I can. Tony Christie gets played but think Il Divo and Matteo Boccelli are probably too modern for the big boss man. 🤔. Vic will always be my favourite singer. Xx

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 7 March 2026

So glad you could tune in and become one of our Great Early Morning Stalwarts (GEMS)! What brilliant memories and Alan Dell and David Jacobs too! Radio Heroes.

  28. Vanessa-Ann Dowsett on 7 March 2026

Thanks Johnny Mac for another brilliant show, I love the Mini Mystery Years , keeps me entertained during the night when I cannot sleep, one spot on and two just one year out! Must try harder! Have a great weekend

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 7 March 2026

Thank you, Vanessa-Ann. No big prizes but a massive hug of gratitude!

Hope you also enjoyed Vic Damone as our Artist of the week. Next Saturday it’s Liza with a Zee Minnelli – as she turns 80!

  29. Barbara Heathcote on 6 March 2026

Thanks Paul for Artie Shaw Frenesie. Appreciate it. I was tapping feet and nodding head with a budgie on my head. 😂. Not sure she appreciated being moved about.

    • Paul Ruddock - Swing Time on 6 March 2026

My pleasure Barbara, really glad you and your feathered friend enjoyed Mr Shaw. Thank you for listening and also for your continued support.

      Best wishes

      Paul

PS Have you thought about a hat or an umbrella instead?! 😉

      • Barbara Heathcote on 6 March 2026

Ha ha It’s a new fad, she is determined to sit on my head. Enjoyed the music tonight.

  30. Adrian H on 6 March 2026

Looking forward to hearing Vic Damone as special artist with the nightshifters on Saturday morning.

  31. Daren Overington on 6 March 2026

Currently in Phuket and keeping up with all the wonderful music The album of the week was simply magnificent Harry Secombe & Moira Anderson.
Thank you for keeping us entertained

  32. Nancy on 5 March 2026

Where’s ‘Steyn’s Song of the Week’? I know he had a recent heart attack and was in a car accident. Is he okay?

    • Andy Marriott, Station Manager on 5 March 2026

      Hi Nancy,
Yes don’t worry Mark is OK.
We have had a technical breakdown, the emergency backup system has been filling the airwaves with soothing music to hide the mad scramble at this end. Sorry for the loss of Song of the week, it’s back on Sunday.
Sorry folks, hopefully the problem is now resolved, and The Latin Lounge will be fine!

      • Nancy on 5 March 2026

Thank you for a quick response Andy! I’m happy to know it’s a technical hiccup and not a sorrowful event.

  33. James Wilson on 5 March 2026

Lovely to listen to Jean Challis on the Frank Chatsfield hour….what a change to hear someone speaking perfectly with great diction.

    • Andy Marriott, Station Manager on 5 March 2026

Yes, she makes the rest of us sound like bumbling half-wits!

  34. Barbara Heathcote on 5 March 2026

Listening to the 3 Dean Martin songs there’s one song I haven’t heard for a long time is My Woman My Wife. A really beautiful song, worth a listen.

  35. Barbara Heathcote on 4 March 2026

Hi John. What a Beautiful song by our Vic and such a beautiful voice. I’ve never heard that song and I’ve got a lot of LPs and dvds etc I’ll have to find it. It’s now my second favourite after All the Things You Are.

  36. Sandra Grant on 3 March 2026

Dancing around the room with my 92 year old Mum to ‘Coming in on a wing and a prayer’. Fabulous music. Serenade preserves our sanity in this troubled world. 🎶 Thank you to all the presenters. 🙏🏻

  37. Greg on 3 March 2026

I discovered Serenade several years back via Mark Steyn’s web site, and have been listening daily ever since. “The Lonely Man” was a perfect fit for The Quiet Hour today, a childhood TV memory I hadn’t heard in years! (On the TV front, I hear John Barry regularly, so perhaps his theme to The Persuaders would be a good addition somewhere..) Love all your shows and presenters, and will carry on listening in Dallas, Texas..

  38. Barbara Heathcote on 2 March 2026

Hi Andy a suggestion for the 7.30 vintage slot. Jack Jones’ famous dad Alan Jones Donkey Serenade from the 30s I think. And no I wasn’t around then. 😂. Keep taking the tablets. Hope feel better soon. whisky might help. 🥃

  39. George on 1 March 2026

So great to hear the legend that is Johnny Beerling paying tribute to Glenn Miller and Dinah Shore on his show this evening with ‘All I Do Is Dream Of You’, I had no idea they’d recorded together until I saw your Facebook post featuring them both earlier today.

  40. Buzz Tietjen on 1 March 2026

Sorry neglected to mention the show I appreciated and was referencing-Steve James’
    wonderful eclectic mosaic of choices-grand🐝

  41. David Thackray on 28 February 2026

“Good night, baby/Good night, milkman’s on his way.” I’ve always loved ‘coming home at dawn’ song lyrics and Lullaby of Broadway from On the Town’s Sinatra Sextet is the original example. (Unless Noel Coward’s The Party’s Over Now was earlier.)  The Girls I Never Kissed was new to me and rather wonderful even if it might have suited some kind of wide-eyed, winsome John Denver-type better. I Love You features from the mystifyingly neglected Sinatra and Swingin’ Brass. So much to enjoy in this week’s show!

  42. Buzz Tietjen on 28 February 2026

Lovely show, crystal clear here in Northern California .Thank you🐝

  43. Peter Cunningham on 28 February 2026

    Dear Serenade Radio,

I just wanted to write you a quick message to say how much I enjoyed listening to your programmes this Thursday (26th Feb.). I had a true vintage light entertainment day as I was researching light entertainment programmes on BBC-TV in the 1940s/50s and as I needed something to keep me company whilst reading through old documents, I instantly thought of Serenade. In particular, Sonia Beldom’s programme was especially enjoyable, and introduced me to a few new-to-me tracks from favourite artistes which I thoroughly enjoyed.

So thank you, for putting on such an excellent series of programmes – and for keeping easy listening going!

(Thanks also for the excellent “Music While You Work” programmes, which I love listening to whenever I can!)

    Yours faithfully,

    Peter Cunningham

    • Sonia Beldom on 1 March 2026

Hello Peter and thank you for taking the time to write in. So pleased that Serenade has been your soundtrack whilst working on your research project. We love the music and it’s always great to hear how much our listeners are enjoying it too. Keep listening and let us know if you have any favourites and … who knows? … we might play it as a a special request for you. Sonia x

  44. Dianne Evans on 28 February 2026

I love Serenade Radio – they play my kind of music all day – no news, weather or advertising – fabulous station. Thank you.

  45. S Lane on 28 February 2026

Thanks for playing Edmundo Ros record! Great show this evening on Dance Band Days

    • Roger Williams on 7 March 2026

Hello! Thank you for your kind comment about Dance Band Days and Edmundo Rosin particular. He was a bit special wasn’t he? Sorry to have been slow in responding and thank you for listening!

      Roger & Paul

  46. Charlotte Gilmore on 28 February 2026

You come highly recommended by my Mother who knew I’d just adore you folk, and adore, I do! Brilliant selection of smashing music and a Showstoppers section! I’m totally sold! Thank you so much to all who volunteer, so glad I found you!

  47. Suzy on 28 February 2026

Waking early on Saturday mornings so as not to miss Ed, I discovered A Little Night Music. Then pre-3am, I now enjoy listening to Sean. So an ardent Dawn Chorister, is also one of Johnny’s GEMS and, more recently, an Usherette. Sleep? Pah! Who needs it! zzzz

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 28 February 2026

Suzy – I always did say tis the best time of the day!

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 19 March 2026

And, Suzy, the posh and velvety dulcets of Mr Raymond Birch introduced my and Sean’s shows last Saturday, 14 March.

I do hope he returns, though I may have to dress up for the broadcast!

  48. Barbara Heathcote on 28 February 2026

Hi Cindy. Great to hear Tony Christie. Been to 2 of his concerts recently. Lovely man and still going strong.

  49. Kay Dickinson on 28 February 2026

Love this station. Thanks for not playing the obvious and bringing some long lost songs to me. Saturday morning is great. Only found you last year. A gem

  50. Jayne Millerton on 28 February 2026

Devastated that Neil Sedaka has left us and we hope Serenade can do a full tribute programme to his music soon.

    • Jeff Owen on 28 February 2026

Hello Jayne, Very sad news indeed. I’ll play a load of his best tunes this morning. Hope you enjoy them & thanks for listening to Serenade. Have a good weekend.

  51. Barbara Heathcote on 28 February 2026

Hi Johnny Mac. 3.00 am I’m usually in the land of nod 😴 but for Vic I’ll make the effort to tune in. Thank you.

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 28 February 2026

Thank you, Barbara. I’m on 3am to 6am and will play a hit from Vic every hour on the half-hour.

  52. Sandra R on 28 February 2026

    Hi Steve,
Great music on your show this morning,a lot of personal favourites, one in particular,Francois Hardy my late husbands favourite singer,so thank you for that.
So sad to hear of Neil Sedaka’s passing,a great songwriter with many great songs, perhaps you could include some in future programmes. Many thanks.

  53. Nancy on 28 February 2026

Got the first two mystery years on A Little Night Music – that’s going on the calendar! Great show tonight Johnny Mac, the music was great!

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 28 February 2026

      Well done, Nancy!

Next Saturday’s artist of the week (7 March) is Vic Damone. See you at 3am, our time!

  54. Adrian H on 28 February 2026

So sad to hear that Neil Sedaka has passed. A true legend.

    • Nancy on 28 February 2026

A true legend indeed. This saddens me😢

  55. Jan Baldwin on 27 February 2026

Hi … Paul Ruddock’s show tonight had me jitter bugging like my ma and pa !

    • Paul Ruddock - Swing Time on 27 February 2026

Oh Jan, thank you for getting in touch, that’s brought such a smile to my face. I’ll try and play some more tunes next week that’ll get you up and ready to ‘cut a rug’. Now, where’s my zoot suit?! Stay tuned to SR, your support is so appreciated. Paul

  56. Barbara Heathcote on 27 February 2026

Another great programme tonight. Loved Glen Miller Gene Kruper and Artie Shaw. Next week could you play Artie Shaw Frenesi please. Thank you.

    • Paul Ruddock - Swing Time on 27 February 2026

Thank you Barbara, that’s lovely to know you enjoyed the show. It’ll be a pleasure to dig out Artie’s version of Frenesi for you next week. Stay tuned and thank you again. With my best wishes. Paul

      • Barbara Heathcote on 27 February 2026

Thank you Paul. I’ll look forward to hearing it.

  57. John Quarm on 27 February 2026

Friday morning around 10-10.20 Peggy Lee, Nancy Sinatra, Ted Heath, Stan Kenton – excellent! What more could you want?

    • Sonia Beldom on 27 February 2026

Grewat that you’re loving the music choices John. Yes, they’re all classics aren’ they? Keep listening and enjoying Serenade Radio. Sonia B

  58. James Chapman on 26 February 2026

Hi John a very good selection this afternoon. Keep up the good work.

  59. Barbara Heathcote on 25 February 2026

Hi Andy. You saved the best until last this morning. Thank you. Good job I was listening otherwise I’d miss it tonight.

  60. Randall Riley on 24 February 2026

Just hearing you playing Gogi Grant on “I’m Confessin’,” just sublime near the end where she lilts upward on “dreamin’ dreams of you in-vain…” Really so good! Thanks for all you do, I never stream any other station.

  61. Howard Del Monte on 23 February 2026

Hello Andy, I like the new ‘vintage’ sounding SR continuity announcer, just like the actual ones that can be heard on the 1950/1960s recordings of the Music While You Work opening and closing orchestra name announcements.

You are all doing such a good job on Serenade Radio.

    Best wishes,

    Howard

  62. Jane Bozian on 21 February 2026

Oh my, what a treat listening to Steve James at 11pm tonight!
Some beautifully obscure songs were played, some familiar, some totally new. How I wish there was a listen again facility.
I’m just sad I’ve only just discovered Serenade and have missed weeks of gems!

    • Steve James on 22 February 2026

Thank you Jane, it was a pretty eclectic mix last night even by my standards… everyone from Blossom Dearie to Orange Bicycle- and Fairport Convention. I never know quite where the music is going to take me!

      • Jane Bozian on 22 February 2026

That’s why I enjoy your programme so much Steve! Orange Bicycle is in my little red book of favourites, so it was great to hear it again!

  63. David Thackray on 21 February 2026

Rock & Roll Waltz from Mark Steyn’s On the Town was such a delight. At first I thought it might be sung by Dinah Washington but it turned out to be Kay Starr – how come I don’t have a single record by such a stellar singer? Caterina Valente and Earl Bostick are also relatively new names to me introduced by Mark. Never miss his show!

    • Mark Steyn on 23 February 2026

Thank you, David. Nothing to be ashamed of hearing Dinah Wash in Kay Starr. I vaguely recall some reviewers saying that about Kay’s album with Basie (although I prefer her to Dinah). As to Caterina, I adored her and consider her one of the all-time greats.

  64. Andrew Hunter on 21 February 2026

    Hi Adrian
Thanks for a lovely show with a lot of amazing numbers! Loved the Flash, bang, wallop (with a nod to Tommy Steele). Please play Tommy Steele singing The Fortuosity song sometime.
    Andrew (Cape Town, RSA)

    • Adrian on 22 February 2026

Hi Andrew, thanks for your kind comments and as it happens, ‘Fortuosity’ will be in my programme next week. Enjoy and thanks for listening. Adrian

      • Andrew Hunter on 22 February 2026

        Hi Adrian
I am looking forward to hearing Tommy next week! Thanks for a wonderful programme every Saturday. I really appreciate the time you (and the other presenters) freely give to keeping this fantastic music alive. I always enjoy the well-known numbers and being introduced to musicals I do not know at all and their top songs. How about some Mack and Mabel showstoppers?
        Andy (CT)

  65. Nancy on 21 February 2026

Thank you Adrian Jackson for playing my request of “Life Is” from the musical Zorba. I had the good fortune to see the revival in San Francisco with the wonderful Anthony Quinn in the title role.
Many thanks for your very entertaining program 🎶

    • Adrian on 22 February 2026

Thank you Nancy, a pleasure, I’ll play more from the score in a future programme. Adrian

      • Nancy on 22 February 2026

        OPA!🇬🇷

  66. Martyn Bassey on 21 February 2026

Many thanks to Sean Usher for the great music on his show this morning.
Thanks also to Johnny Mac for the fabulous music on your show. Loved the three songs from Glen Campbell, and thanks also for playing one of my all time favourite songs, “I Started A Joke” by The Bee Gees. Great stuff!! 👍👍

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 21 February 2026

Isn’t ‘ I Started A Joke’ a minor classic, Martyn. Especially when you think of what the Brothers Gibb went on to produce in the 70s. Catch up with you again at ‘the best time of the day’ next Saturday at 3am!

  67. Barbara Heathcote on 21 February 2026

The trouble with Serenade Radio is I never get any work done. 🤣. Listened to Steve James great programme and now Jeff Owen. Loving the funny stories. Jeff if you drive up the road to Derbyshire we are currently having a bit of sunshine. I can now see the castle on the hill overlooking my town.

  68. Chris Cobb on 21 February 2026

Steve James – thanks for playing Alma Cogan’s version of ‘Eight Days a Week’.In my humble opinion far better than The Beatles original and the best cover version of any Beatles song.

    • Steve James on 22 February 2026

Alma certainly gave it her all on that recording, Chris. There’s a terrific version of ‘Help!’ on the B-side of that single too. I’ll have to give it a spin!

      • Chris Cobb on 22 February 2026

Thanks Steve – look forward to hearing it again.

  69. Suzy on 21 February 2026

Oh, I did enjoy this week’s warm sticky bun with crème fraiche followed by a glissando. Thanks, Ed!

    • Paul on 21 February 2026

Me too Suzy, I wonder what tomorrow’s breakfast treat will be with Ed; maybe the Twiglets again, hope so!

  70. Nancy on 21 February 2026

Elkie Brooks ‐ part Dusty Springfield, part Janis Joplin. Her voice and style is just terrific! Great stuff tonight Johnny Mac!

  71. Nancy on 21 February 2026

Thanks to Karen and A Little Night Music’s Johnny Mac for Glen Campbell’s delightful singing!

    • Johnny Mac, A Little Night Music on 21 February 2026

Yes, Nancy – Karen chose brilliantly when nominating Glen.

My artist of the week next Saturday from 3am is the magnificent Ray Charles.

  72. Brian Gallagher on 20 February 2026

Hi there fom New Zealand where I still enjoy your music.

  73. Lisa TH Pino on 20 February 2026

Good day! I would very much like to listen, but am unable to find the play, or listen symbol to click on my laptop to allow me to do so. Please clue me in as to what this symbol I’m supposed to click on most likely looks like. Thank you.

    • Edgar on 22 February 2026

What I do is type “s” in the place where a Google search would be done, and my computer knows to turn that into serenade-radio.com. When that comes up, there is an arrow point rto the right in the upper right corner next to the name of the song or show that is on right now.

  74. Barbara Heathcote on 20 February 2026

Hi Andy. Is Bob Newhart telephone call from Walter Raleigh re Tobacco something for the bit of nonsense slot. It’s hilarious if there’s anyone who hasn’t heard it.

  75. Nigel Choyce on 20 February 2026

Great to hear Ray Moore on Andy’s “bit of nonsense” this morning. And I remembered the words to it too! Wonderful memories of a great broadcaster.

  76. Randall Riley on 19 February 2026

Thank you for streaming Geraldo/Al Bowlly’s “While a Cigarette Was Burning” this fine day. So very, very good.

  77. Barbara Heathcote on 17 February 2026

Hi Andy just listening to Al Martino singing “I have but one heart.” I presume you know he had the UK first No. 1 record with “Here in my Heart “. Be nice to hear that please.

  78. Randall Riley on 17 February 2026

How lovely to be hearing the wonderful Rita Reys today. Very underplayed and underappreciated. She does a great version of “On a Clear Day,” if you can find it. Enjoying you guys as always across the pond in Austin, Texas!

    • Paul Ruddock on 18 February 2026

Isn’t it just Randall, she’s a joy to hear. ‘Clear Day’ is on her 1969 album ‘Rita Reys Today’ which I have a copy of, I’ll speak nicely to Mr Marriott and see if we can get it into the library for future play, some real crackers on it!

      • Simon McLean on 18 February 2026

Wonderful arrangements by Peter Knight on that album – I have Peter’s own reel to reel tape copy, though it’s not been well cared for by whoever had it before me, sadly

    • Sonia Beldom on 20 February 2026

Hi Randall, we’re thrilled that you’re enjoying the station and especially when we play Rita Reys. Keep listening, I’ve got a track on Monday’s show (10-12) and will be playing another on Wednesday. Just for you. Sonia

      • Randall Riley on 21 February 2026

Thank you, Sonia! Rita is a favorite and I look forward to hearing the tracks. Have a wonderful weekend!

      • Randall Riley on 23 February 2026

Sonia, listening to your streaming Rita Reys “What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life.” Now that’s a proper track to go with a spot of tea this morning across the pond where it is not yet 6am here. Thanks for including Rita!

        • Sonia Beldom on 23 February 2026

Our pleasure Randall. So glad you are enjoying the music on Serenade. Keep an ear out for more Rita Reys tracks.

  79. Barbara Heathcote on 16 February 2026

Hi David. Loving the programme. Vic Damone, Wonderful. Al Martino I’ve heard twice today. You played Pete Seeger. I remember him from Little Boxes made of ticky tacky.

    • David Yarnall on 28 February 2026

      Thank you Barbara

  80. Andy Grahamme on 16 February 2026

Monday morning….the sun is shining…and Andy Marriott…in fine form…has played Eydie Gorme…now playing Robert Goulet..or “Bob” …as David Jacobs would call him!! Absolute bliss!! It doesn”t get any better!!

  81. Armando Loni on 15 February 2026

    Late Night Extra: Steve James
Steve – thanks again for this eclectic prog. I have now searched out Shelby Flint, Jason Crest and Temple Row….. Just excellent 👍🏻

  82. Richard Mauzer on 15 February 2026

  83. Barbara Heathcote on 15 February 2026

Hi Steve. Thank you for playing Paul and Barry Ryan this morning. Don’t hear them played these days. Only Serenade Radio. Xx

    • Steve James on 15 February 2026

Hi Barbara, yes the Ryan twins are rarely played these days, which is a shame as they recorded some great tracks. Of course you’ll hear their mum Marion Ryan on Serenade too!

  84. Nancy on 14 February 2026

    Happy birthday SR

  85. Mark Sutherland on 14 February 2026

Great to hear Adrian Jackson play The Banana for my Pie from the Denis King/Dick Vosburgh musical A Saint She Ain’t. The late Barry Cryer was superb in this.

    • Adrian on 15 February 2026

Hi Mark, I’ll feature more from the score during the next few weeks, pleased you enjoyed. Thanks for listening

Hi Stuart just listening to Walking my Baby Back Home. As a child I always wondered how he got powder on his vest 🤣. A vest in UK different to the US. I had a good imagination though. 😜

    • Stuart Linnell on 14 February 2026

Thank you Barbara. That made me smile. It always surprises me how our two countries use the same language in such different ways. Thank you for getting in touch again. It’s good to hear from you.

      • Barbara Heathcote on 14 February 2026

Hi Stuart. Yes it’s the same with braces and suspenders. Can’t imagine suspenders holding up trousers. 😂

  95. Ralph Stroud on 14 February 2026

Happy Birthday Serenade, I’ve just enjoyed another couple of hours with Jeff Owen, only he could get away with comparing “Walk on by” with fusion food – Wok and Pie! Shocking!

I’m already looking forward to Mark Steyn and the Dance Band days – the perfect antidote to Saturday TV!
