Hi again. As you rightly said: you are doing 99.99% right, and I add, plus tax. Your quality is above thousands of radios. Your speech is so clear, your comments are so sober, your music is so exceptional!!!!
Sure you remember I live in Patagonia, southern tip of South America. Thank you for such a top work!!!

Hey Andy, Burt Bacharach just passed at 94 years of age. Such a catalog of great songs. Any chance of a special hour or something to remember?

    1
    • Andy Marriott on 10 February 2023

      Hi Michael,
We will, of course, be playing lots of extra Burt Bacharach music over the weekend. There is such a huge catalogue of great tunes to enjoy.
Don’t miss today’s Music Box, Simon will be cramming loads into that relaxing hour at midday and midnight.

      Hi Brian,
Online Radio Box is a third party, we have no connection to them whatsoever.
The way we deliver our programmes and the “Just played” list has not altered in 8 years.
Please speak to Online Radio Box, the problem is clearly at their end!
      Thanks,
      Andy Marriott

My wife and I were in Kiev, Ukraine in 2000 and stopped to see a brass quintet concert. A young gal would come out before every song and explain something about it including the name of the song. We then would lean over to our interpreter to learn the title. He whispered, “I’m not guilty.” Then…they started playing…AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’. We couldn’t stop laughing and are still laughing over that. Some things don’t translate all that well.

I’m in Australia. I just discovered this station and I’m loving it. There’s nothing like it here anymore; hasn’t been for decades. Our radio stations have all gone woke, and still pushing a certain injectable experiment onto us. Listening to Etta Jones now. So lovely. Thank you!

    Hi David,
Really enjoy your daily one o’clock program. I’m a big fan of the legendary crooners like Dean, Andy, Perry, and Nat. Like your personal comments as well … keep up the terrific work.

Hi Paul. Thank you very much for your message and I’m so glad you enjoy my programme and I must admit I enjoy presenting it. Those crooners did leave a terrific musical legacy for us all to enjoy and what better way to do so than via Serenade Radio. My listener base is becoming quite international with you in Nova Scotia and a couple in Southern France!! Thanks again for taking the trouble to contact me – it is much appreciated.

I LOVE Serenade radio. Radio like it used to be. I write as a daughter of a broadcaster who worked with many of the greats even Glen Miller when he worked for AEF during the war, and subsequently the BBC Light programme. Edmundo Ros even wrote a song for me! You take me back to so many wonderful Sunday afternoons. Thank you all so much for the sheer joy of our kind of music – to quote the great David Jacobs.

How fabulous to have music presented by people who understand it, and provide additional details of accompanying orchestras, musicians, composers and often the film or musical it was featured in. Intelligent radio!

What a lovely surprise to hear The Robert Docker Sextet on MWYW this morning. Robert Docker was my father and it is so good to know that he hasn’t been forgotten and his music lives on. I wonder if anyone knows who the other players in his sextet were? Maybe they were just random session musicians, although I think this is unlikely. Serenade Radio never ceases to provide hours of pleasurable listening – thank you so much. Kind regards, Beverley.

    • Brian Reynolds on 23 January 2023

I was actually present at the recording of that broadcast (as a studio guest, not a musician) I can recall that the guitarist was Billy Bell and the saxophone/clarinet player was Peter Ripper. Robert Docker, in addition to being one of radio’s most distinguished pianists, also wrote countless arrangements for the BBC Concert orchestra and the Reginald Leopold Orchestra, of which he was a member. In today’s programme he played his own composition “Rags to Riches”. Among his other works are ‘Legend’, ‘Fairy Dance Reel’, and the ubiquitous “Tabarinage” (Buffoonary) Robert was part of the fabric of light music and is remembered by countless people!

We read an article in the Telegraph this week that mentioned Serenade Radio and thought we would give it a try. This is the station for us now. Radio Two has lost its way. The idea of “moving older presenters elsewhere” is a very bad decision by someone as the “older listeners” are leaving Radio Two with them to go to other stations that play brilliant music like you do. Carry on the excellent work and we are now with you all the way. Thank you. Xx

I must say a huge thank you to Stuart Linnell for including Cara Mia by David Whitfield and Love Changes Everything by Michael Ball and For All We Know by Joan Regan in your playlist yesterday.
I knew both David and Joan for a number of years having worked as his Secretary when he did a summer season in Bournemouth in 1959.
In Joan’s case after 50 years in 2003 I had the most wonderful few minutes chatting to her about her early career and first summer season in Weymouth in 1953 and beyond. We renewed our friendship again in Bournemouth in 2005 when she came into the Pavilion Theatre foyer for a memorable chat! Such precious memories.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed hearing those records on my show Glenda, and that they brought back those lovely memories. Those artists all had such superb voices and they are perfect examples of what Serenade Radio is here to do, bringing great singers and great songs, as I call them, for us all to enjoy. Thank you for listening Glenda.

I would like to welcome Dick Fisher as a regular listener and avid supporter of Serenade Radio.
I enjoyed your first programme very much indeed, a lovely mix of vocals and orchestrals. Loved your style of presenting too. I’m sure you’re going to be a very welcome addition to Serenade. It was so nice to hear some of our British singers as well as their American contemporaries.

Thank you Glenda for your warm welcome. I am beginning to feel at home as part of a wonderful team of broadcasters. I wish I could claim all the credit for the music selection and agree that we should never forget the wealth of UK talent we’ve produced!

A great station, I was told about you from a dear friend and have been listening for about 4 months. One of the best is “sing something simple ” just takes me back to Sunday afternoons and my visits to my grandparents. I had to be there before it started, if not had to wait until it finished, was not aloud to interrupt. Open fire going and paraffin lamp alight in the middle of the table, black ring on the ceiling. They had no mains electric and the toast was done on a long fork by the fire, Happy days and a more relaxed atmosphere, or so it seemed. Keep up the good work. A very happy new year

  37. Glenda Logan-Reid on 2 January 2023

I was so very sad to hear that Brian Savin is retiring from Serenade Radio due to ill health. Most Serenade listeners including myself had no idea at all of the difficulties and clever wizardry was happening to keep him on air. Motor Neurone is a very challenging and cruel disease as I have seen from two friends who suffered.
In the words of the famous ABBA song “Thank You For The Music” seems the most appropriate thing to say for the man who liked to present quality music with a capital ‘K’. We’ll miss you Brian, thinking of Brian and his family at this time.

I just wanted to say thanks for producing such a brilliant schedule of programmes over the Christmas period. It’s quite clear that a lot of hard work goes in to each and every one of the shows. It’s very therapeutic to drift back into Christmas’ when life seemed a lot friendlier and less confrontational than we have to put up with now. So much so that it was with some sadness when the day came and the Xmas songs were no more. But never mind, we just revert to all the other great music that we hear on Serenade.

If others claim to be the home of Christmas Music, then Serenade must be the Kingdom. A great, big thank you to you ALL, especially Andy. Everyone is so professional and engaging. As committed devotees for nearly two years, this excellent standard is (like the puppy) not just for Christmas but for all year round. In Jan, we’ll set up a monthly s/o to help a little, as we don’t know how you do it without a guaranteed income – but so glad you do. Merry Christmas to everyone from the Isle of Man.
PS We do appreciate Della Reece having a rest over Christmas, though. Any chance of a bit more of another DR – early Diana Ross added to the mix??
